Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree
ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς πασι τοις λαοις φυλαις και γλωσσαις τοις οικουσιν εν παση τη γη ειρηνη υμιν πληθυνθειη
אֲנָ֣ה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר שְׁלֵ֤ה הֲוֵית֙ בְּבֵיתִ֔י וְרַעְנַ֖ן בְּהֵיכְלִֽי׃
Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
2 τα σημεια και τα τερατα α εποιησεν μετ εμου ο θεος ο υψιστος ηρεσεν εναντιον εμου αναγγειλαι υμιν
חֵ֥לֶם חֲזֵ֖ית וִֽידַחֲלִנַּ֑נִי וְהַרְהֹרִין֙ עַֽל־מִשְׁכְּבִ֔י וְחֶזְוֵ֥י רֵאשִׁ֖י יְבַהֲלֻנַּֽנִי׃
I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God has wrought toward me.
3 ως μεγαλα και ισχυρα η βασιλεια αυτου βασιλεια αιωνιος και η εξουσια αυτου εις γενεαν και γενεαν
וּמִנִּי֙ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵ֔ם לְהַנְעָלָ֣ה קָֽדָמַ֔י לְכֹ֖ל חַכִּימֵ֣י בָבֶ֑ל דִּֽי־פְשַׁ֥ר חֶלְמָ֖א יְהֽוֹדְעֻנַּֽנִי׃
How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
4 εγω ναβουχοδονοσορ ευθηνων ημην εν τω οικω μου και ευθαλων
בֵּאדַ֣יִן *עללין **עָלִּ֗ין חַרְטֻמַיָּא֙ אָֽשְׁפַיָּ֔א *כשדיא **כַּשְׂדָּאֵ֖י וְגָזְרַיָּ֑א וְחֶלְמָ֗א אָמַ֤ר אֲנָה֙ קֳדָ֣מֵיה֔וֹן וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ לָא־מְהוֹדְעִ֥ין לִֽי׃
I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:
5 ενυπνιον ειδον και εφοβερισεν με και εταραχθην επι της κοιτης μου και αι ορασεις της κεφαλης μου συνεταραξαν με
וְעַ֣ד אָחֳרֵ֡ין עַל֩ קָֽדָמַ֨י דָּנִיֵּ֜אל דִּֽי־שְׁמֵ֤הּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ כְּשֻׁ֣ם אֱלָהִ֔י וְדִ֛י רֽוּחַ־אֱלָהִ֥ין קַדִּישִׁ֖ין בֵּ֑הּ וְחֶלְמָ֖א קָֽדָמ֥וֹהִי אַמְרֵֽת׃
I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
6 και δι εμου ετεθη δογμα του εισαγαγειν ενωπιον μου παντας τους σοφους βαβυλωνος οπως την συγκρισιν του ενυπνιου γνωρισωσιν μοι
בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֮ רַ֣ב חַרְטֻמַיָּא֒ דִּ֣י ׀ אֲנָ֣ה יִדְעֵ֗ת דִּ֠י ר֣וּחַ אֱלָהִ֤ין קַדִּישִׁין֙ בָּ֔ךְ וְכָל־רָ֖ז לָא־אָנֵ֣ס לָ֑ךְ חֶזְוֵ֨י חֶלְמִ֧י דִֽי־חֲזֵ֛ית וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ אֱמַֽר׃
Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
7 και εισεπορευοντο οι επαοιδοι μαγοι γαζαρηνοι χαλδαιοι και το ενυπνιον ειπα εγω ενωπιον αυτων και την συγκρισιν αυτου ουκ εγνωρισαν μοι
וְחֶזְוֵ֥י רֵאשִׁ֖י עַֽל־מִשְׁכְּבִ֑י חָזֵ֣ה הֲוֵ֔ית וַאֲל֥וּ אִילָ֛ן בְּג֥וֹא אַרְעָ֖א וְרוּמֵ֥הּ שַׂגִּֽיא׃
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
8 εως ου ηλθεν δανιηλ ου το ονομα βαλτασαρ κατα το ονομα του θεου μου ος πνευμα θεου αγιον εν εαυτω εχει και το ενυπνιον ενωπιον αυτου ειπα
רְבָ֥ה אִֽילָנָ֖א וּתְקִ֑ף וְרוּמֵהּ֙ יִמְטֵ֣א לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א וַחֲזוֹתֵ֖הּ לְס֥וֹף כָּל־אַרְעָֽא׃
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my God, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
9 βαλτασαρ ο αρχων των επαοιδων ον εγω εγνων οτι πνευμα θεου αγιον εν σοι και παν μυστηριον ουκ αδυνατει σε ακουσον την ορασιν του ενυπνιου ου ειδον και την συγκρισιν αυτου ειπον μοι
עָפְיֵ֤הּ שַׁפִּיר֙ וְאִנְבֵּ֣הּ שַׂגִּ֔יא וּמָז֨וֹן לְכֹ֖לָּא־בֵ֑הּ תְּחֹת֜וֹהִי תַּטְלֵ֣ל ׀ חֵיוַ֣ת בָּרָ֗א וּבְעַנְפ֙וֹהִי֙ *ידרון **יְדוּרָן֙ צִפֲּרֵ֣י שְׁמַיָּ֔א וּמִנֵּ֖הּ יִתְּזִ֥ין כָּל־בִּשְׂרָֽא׃
O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
10 επι της κοιτης μου εθεωρουν και ιδου δενδρον εν μεσω της γης και το υψος αυτου πολυ
חָזֵ֥ה הֲוֵ֛ית בְּחֶזְוֵ֥י רֵאשִׁ֖י עַֽל־מִשְׁכְּבִ֑י וַאֲלוּ֙ עִ֣יר וְקַדִּ֔ישׁ מִן־שְׁמַיָּ֖א נָחִֽת׃
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
11 εμεγαλυνθη το δενδρον και ισχυσεν και το υψος αυτου εφθασεν εως του ουρανου και το κυτος αυτου εις τα περατα πασης της γης
קָרֵ֨א בְחַ֜יִל וְכֵ֣ן אָמַ֗ר גֹּ֤דּוּ אִֽילָנָא֙ וְקַצִּ֣צוּ עַנְפ֔וֹהִי אַתַּ֥רוּ עָפְיֵ֖הּ וּבַדַּ֣רוּ אִנְבֵּ֑הּ תְּנֻ֤ד חֵֽיוְתָא֙ מִן־תַּחְתּ֔וֹהִי וְצִפְּרַיָּ֖א מִן־עַנְפֽוֹהִי׃
The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
12 τα φυλλα αυτου ωραια και ο καρπος αυτου πολυς και τροφη παντων εν αυτω και υποκατω αυτου κατεσκηνουν τα θηρια τα αγρια και εν τοις κλαδοις αυτου κατωκουν τα ορνεα του ουρανου και εξ αυτου ετρεφετο πασα σαρξ
בְּרַ֨ם עִקַּ֤ר שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ בְּאַרְעָ֣א שְׁבֻ֔קוּ וּבֶֽאֱסוּר֙ דִּֽי־פַרְזֶ֣ל וּנְחָ֔שׁ בְּדִתְאָ֖א דִּ֣י בָרָ֑א וּבְטַ֤ל שְׁמַיָּא֙ יִצְטַבַּ֔ע וְעִם־חֵיוְתָ֥א חֲלָקֵ֖הּ בַּעֲשַׂ֥ב אַרְעָֽא׃
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
13 εθεωρουν εν οραματι της νυκτος επι της κοιτης μου και ιδου ιρ και αγιος απ ουρανου κατεβη
לִבְבֵהּ֙ מִן־*אנושא **אֲנָשָׁ֣א יְשַׁנּ֔וֹן וּלְבַ֥ב חֵיוָ֖ה יִתְיְהִ֣ב לֵ֑הּ וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה עִדָּנִ֖ין יַחְלְפ֥וּן עֲלֽוֹהִי׃
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
14 και εφωνησεν εν ισχυι και ουτως ειπεν εκκοψατε το δενδρον και εκτιλατε τους κλαδους αυτου και εκτιναξατε τα φυλλα αυτου και διασκορπισατε τον καρπον αυτου σαλευθητωσαν τα θηρια υποκατωθεν αυτου και τα ορνεα απο των κλαδων αυτου
בִּגְזֵרַ֤ת עִירִין֙ פִּתְגָמָ֔א וּמֵאמַ֥ר קַדִּישִׁ֖ין שְׁאֵֽלְתָ֑א עַד־דִּבְרַ֡ת דִּ֣י יִנְדְּע֣וּן חַ֠יַּיָּא דִּֽי־שַׁלִּ֨יט *עליא **עִלָּאָ֜ה בְּמַלְכ֣וּת *אנושא **אֲנָשָׁ֗א וּלְמַן־דִּ֤י יִצְבֵּא֙ יִתְּנִנַּ֔הּ וּשְׁפַ֥ל אֲנָשִׁ֖ים יְקִ֥ים *עליה **עֲלַֽהּ׃
He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:
15 πλην την φυην των ριζων αυτου εν τη γη εασατε και εν δεσμω σιδηρω και χαλκω και εν τη χλοη τη εξω και εν τη δροσω του ουρανου κοιτασθησεται και μετα των θηριων η μερις αυτου εν τω χορτω της γης
דְּנָה֙ חֶלְמָ֣א חֲזֵ֔ית אֲנָ֖ה מַלְכָּ֣א נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֑ר *ואנתה **וְאַ֨נְתְּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֜ר פִּשְׁרֵ֣א ׀ אֱמַ֗ר כָּל־קֳבֵל֙ דִּ֣י ׀ כָּל־חַכִּימֵ֣י מַלְכוּתִ֗י לָֽא־יָכְלִ֤ין פִּשְׁרָא֙ לְהוֹדָ֣עֻתַ֔נִי *ואנתה **וְאַ֣נְתְּ כָּהֵ֔ל דִּ֛י רֽוּחַ־אֱלָהִ֥ין קַדִּישִׁ֖ין בָּֽךְ׃
Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
16 η καρδια αυτου απο των ανθρωπων αλλοιωθησεται και καρδια θηριου δοθησεται αυτω και επτα καιροι αλλαγησονται επ αυτον
אֱדַ֨יִן דָּֽנִיֵּ֜אל דִּֽי־שְׁמֵ֣הּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֗ר אֶשְׁתּוֹמַם֙ כְּשָׁעָ֣ה חֲדָ֔ה וְרַעְיֹנֹ֖הִי יְבַהֲלֻנֵּ֑הּ עָנֵ֨ה מַלְכָּ֜א וְאָמַ֗ר בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ חֶלְמָ֤א וּפִשְׁרֵא֙ אַֽל־יְבַהֲלָ֔ךְ עָנֵ֤ה בֵלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ וְאָמַ֔ר *מראי **מָרִ֕י חֶלְמָ֥א *לשנאיך **לְשָֽׂנְאָ֖ךְ וּפִשְׁרֵ֥הּ *לעריך **לְעָרָֽךְ׃
Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
17 δια συγκριματος ιρ ο λογος και ρημα αγιων το επερωτημα ινα γνωσιν οι ζωντες οτι κυριος εστιν ο υψιστος της βασιλειας των ανθρωπων και ω εαν δοξη δωσει αυτην και εξουδενημα ανθρωπων αναστησει επ αυτην
אִֽילָנָא֙ דִּ֣י חֲזַ֔יְתָ דִּ֥י רְבָ֖ה וּתְקִ֑ף וְרוּמֵהּ֙ יִמְטֵ֣א לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א וַחֲזוֹתֵ֖הּ לְכָל־אַרְעָֽא׃
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will, and sets up over it the base of men.
18 τουτο το ενυπνιον ο ειδον εγω ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς και συ βαλτασαρ το συγκριμα ειπον οτι παντες οι σοφοι της βασιλειας μου ου δυνανται το συγκριμα αυτου δηλωσαι μοι συ δε δανιηλ δυνασαι οτι πνευμα θεου αγιον εν σοι
וְעָפְיֵ֤הּ שַׁפִּיר֙ וְאִנְבֵּ֣הּ שַׂגִּ֔יא וּמָז֨וֹן לְכֹ֖לָּא־בֵ֑הּ תְּחֹת֗וֹהִי תְּדוּר֙ חֵיוַ֣ת בָּרָ֔א וּבְעַנְפ֕וֹהִי יִשְׁכְּנָ֖ן צִפֲּרֵ֥י שְׁמַיָּֽא׃
This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now you, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but you are able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

Daniel Interprets the Dream
τοτε δανιηλ ου το ονομα βαλτασαρ απηνεωθη ωσει ωραν μιαν και οι διαλογισμοι αυτου συνεταρασσον αυτον και απεκριθη ο βασιλευς και ειπεν βαλτασαρ το ενυπνιον και η συγκρισις μη κατασπευσατω σε και απεκριθη βαλτασαρ και ειπεν κυριε το ενυπνιον τοις μισουσιν σε και η συγκρισις αυτου τοις εχθροις σου
*אנתה־**אַנְתְּ־ה֣וּא מַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֥י רְבַ֖ית וּתְקֵ֑פְתְּ וּרְבוּתָ֤ךְ רְבָת֙ וּמְטָ֣ת לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א וְשָׁלְטָנָ֖ךְ לְס֥וֹף אַרְעָֽא׃
Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate you, and the interpretation thereof to yours enemies.
20 το δενδρον ο ειδες το μεγαλυνθεν και το ισχυκος ου το υψος εφθασεν εις τον ουρανον και το κυτος αυτου εις πασαν την γην
וְדִ֣י חֲזָ֣ה מַלְכָּ֡א עִ֣יר וְקַדִּ֣ישׁ נָחִ֣ת ׀ מִן־שְׁמַיָּ֡א וְאָמַר֩ גֹּ֨דּוּ אִֽילָנָ֜א וְחַבְּל֗וּהִי בְּרַ֨ם עִקַּ֤ר שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ בְּאַרְעָ֣א שְׁבֻ֔קוּ וּבֶאֱסוּר֙ דִּֽי־פַרְזֶ֣ל וּנְחָ֔שׁ בְּדִתְאָ֖א דִּ֣י בָרָ֑א וּבְטַ֧ל שְׁמַיָּ֣א יִצְטַבַּ֗ע וְעִם־חֵיוַ֤ת בָּרָא֙ חֲלָקֵ֔הּ עַ֛ד דִּֽי־שִׁבְעָ֥ה עִדָּנִ֖ין יַחְלְפ֥וּן עֲלֽוֹהִי׃
The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;
21 και τα φυλλα αυτου ευθαλη και ο καρπος αυτου πολυς και τροφη πασιν εν αυτω υποκατω αυτου κατωκουν τα θηρια τα αγρια και εν τοις κλαδοις αυτου κατεσκηνουν τα ορνεα του ουρανου
דְּנָ֥ה פִשְׁרָ֖א מַלְכָּ֑א וּגְזֵרַ֤ת *עליא **עִלָּאָה֙ הִ֔יא דִּ֥י מְטָ֖ת עַל־*מראי **מָרִ֥י מַלְכָּֽא׃
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:
22 συ ει βασιλευ οτι εμεγαλυνθης και ισχυσας και η μεγαλωσυνη σου εμεγαλυνθη και εφθασεν εις τον ουρανον και η κυριεια σου εις τα περατα της γης
וְלָ֣ךְ טָֽרְדִ֣ין מִן־אֲנָשָׁ֡א וְעִם־חֵיוַ֣ת בָּרָא֩ לֶהֱוֵ֨ה מְדֹרָ֜ךְ וְעִשְׂבָּ֥א כְתוֹרִ֣ין ׀ לָ֣ךְ יְטַֽעֲמ֗וּן וּמִטַּ֤ל שְׁמַיָּא֙ לָ֣ךְ מְצַבְּעִ֔ין וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה עִדָּנִ֖ין יַחְלְפ֣וּן עֲלָ֑יךְ עַ֣ד דִּֽי־תִנְדַּ֗ע דִּֽי־שַׁלִּ֤יט עִלָּיָא֙ בְּמַלְכ֣וּת אֲנָשָׁ֔א וּלְמַן־דִּ֥י יִצְבֵּ֖א יִתְּנִנַּֽהּ׃
It is you, O king, that are grown and become strong: for your greatness is grown, and reachs unto heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.
23 και οτι ειδεν ο βασιλευς ιρ και αγιον καταβαινοντα απο του ουρανου και ειπεν εκτιλατε το δενδρον και διαφθειρατε αυτο πλην την φυην των ριζων αυτου εασατε εν τη γη και εν δεσμω σιδηρω και χαλκω και εν τη χλοη τη εξω και εν τη δροσω του ουρανου αυλισθησεται και μετα θηριων αγριων η μερις αυτου εως ου επτα καιροι αλλοιωθωσιν επ αυτον
וְדִ֣י אֲמַ֗רוּ לְמִשְׁבַּ֞ק עִקַּ֤ר שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ דִּ֣י אִֽילָנָ֔א מַלְכוּתָ֖ךְ לָ֣ךְ קַיָּמָ֑ה מִן־דִּ֣י תִנְדַּ֔ע דִּ֥י שַׁלִּטִ֖ן שְׁמַיָּֽא׃
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
24 τουτο η συγκρισις αυτου βασιλευ και συγκριμα υψιστου εστιν ο εφθασεν επι τον κυριον μου τον βασιλεα
לָהֵ֣ן מַלְכָּ֗א מִלְכִּי֙ יִשְׁפַּ֣ר *עליך **עֲלָ֔ךְ *וחטיך **וַחֲטָאָךְ֙ בְּצִדְקָ֣ה פְרֻ֔ק וַעֲוָיָתָ֖ךְ בְּמִחַ֣ן עֲנָ֑יִן הֵ֛ן תֶּהֱוֵ֥א אַרְכָ֖ה לִשְׁלֵוְתָֽךְ׃
This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which has come upon my lord the king:
25 και σε εκδιωξουσιν απο των ανθρωπων και μετα θηριων αγριων εσται η κατοικια σου και χορτον ως βουν ψωμιουσιν σε και απο της δροσου του ουρανου αυλισθηση και επτα καιροι αλλαγησονται επι σε εως ου γνως οτι κυριευει ο υψιστος της βασιλειας των ανθρωπων και ω αν δοξη δωσει αυτην
כֹּ֣לָּא מְּטָ֔א עַל־נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר מַלְכָּֽא׃ פ
That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will.
26 και οτι ειπαν εασατε την φυην των ριζων του δενδρου η βασιλεια σου σοι μενει αφ ης αν γνως την εξουσιαν την ουρανιον
לִקְצָ֥ת יַרְחִ֖ין תְּרֵֽי־עֲשַׂ֑ר עַל־הֵיכַ֧ל מַלְכוּתָ֛א דִּ֥י בָבֶ֖ל מְהַלֵּ֥ךְ הֲוָֽה׃
And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; your kingdom shall be sure unto you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule.
27 δια τουτο βασιλευ η βουλη μου αρεσατω σοι και τας αμαρτιας σου εν ελεημοσυναις λυτρωσαι και τας αδικιας σου εν οικτιρμοις πενητων ισως εσται μακροθυμος τοις παραπτωμασιν σου ο θεος
עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֔ר הֲלָ֥א דָא־הִ֖יא בָּבֶ֣ל רַבְּתָ֑א דִּֽי־אֲנָ֤ה בֱנַיְתַהּ֙ לְבֵ֣ית מַלְכ֔וּ בִּתְקַ֥ף חִסְנִ֖י וְלִיקָ֥ר הַדְרִֽי׃
Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and yours iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquillity.

The Dream Is Fulfilled
ταυτα παντα εφθασεν επι ναβουχοδονοσορ τον βασιλεα
ע֗וֹד מִלְּתָא֙ בְּפֻ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א קָ֖ל מִן־שְׁמַיָּ֣א נְפַ֑ל לָ֤ךְ אָֽמְרִין֙ נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֔א מַלְכוּתָ֖ה עֲדָ֥ת מִנָּֽךְ׃
All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
29 μετα δωδεκαμηνον επι τω ναω της βασιλειας αυτου εν βαβυλωνι περιπατων
וּמִן־אֲנָשָׁא֩ לָ֨ךְ טָֽרְדִ֜ין וְֽעִם־חֵיוַ֧ת בָּרָ֣א מְדֹרָ֗ךְ עִשְׂבָּ֤א כְתוֹרִין֙ לָ֣ךְ יְטַעֲמ֔וּן וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה עִדָּנִ֖ין יַחְלְפ֣וּן *עליך **עֲלָ֑ךְ עַ֣ד דִּֽי־תִנְדַּ֗ע דִּֽי־שַׁלִּ֤יט עִלָּיָא֙ בְּמַלְכ֣וּת אֲנָשָׁ֔א וּלְמַן־דִּ֥י יִצְבֵּ֖א יִתְּנִנַּֽהּ׃
At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
30 απεκριθη ο βασιλευς και ειπεν ουχ αυτη εστιν βαβυλων η μεγαλη ην εγω ωκοδομησα εις οικον βασιλειας εν τω κρατει της ισχυος μου εις τιμην της δοξης μου
בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֗א מִלְּתָא֮ סָ֣פַת עַל־נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר֒ וּמִן־אֲנָשָׁ֣א טְרִ֔יד וְעִשְׂבָּ֤א כְתוֹרִין֙ יֵאכֻ֔ל וּמִטַּ֥ל שְׁמַיָּ֖א גִּשְׁמֵ֣הּ יִצְטַבַּ֑ע עַ֣ד דִּ֥י שַׂעְרֵ֛הּ כְּנִשְׁרִ֥ין רְבָ֖ה וְטִפְר֥וֹהִי כְצִפְּרִֽין׃
The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
31 ετι του λογου εν στοματι του βασιλεως οντος φωνη απ ουρανου εγενετο σοι λεγουσιν ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλευ η βασιλεια παρηλθεν απο σου
וְלִקְצָ֣ת יֽוֹמַיָּה֩ אֲנָ֨ה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר עַיְנַ֣י ׀ לִשְׁמַיָּ֣א נִטְלֵ֗ת וּמַנְדְּעִי֙ עֲלַ֣י יְת֔וּב *ולעליא **וּלְעִלָּאָה֙ בָּרְכֵ֔ת וּלְחַ֥י עָלְמָ֖א שַׁבְּחֵ֣ת וְהַדְּרֵ֑ת דִּ֤י שָׁלְטָנֵהּ֙ שָׁלְטָ֣ן עָלַ֔ם וּמַלְכוּתֵ֖הּ עִם־דָּ֥ר וְדָֽר׃
While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from you.
32 και απο των ανθρωπων σε εκδιωξουσιν και μετα θηριων αγριων η κατοικια σου και χορτον ως βουν ψωμιουσιν σε και επτα καιροι αλλαγησονται επι σε εως ου γνως οτι κυριευει ο υψιστος της βασιλειας των ανθρωπων και ω εαν δοξη δωσει αυτην
וְכָל־*דארי **דָּיְרֵ֤י אַרְעָא֙ כְּלָ֣ה חֲשִׁיבִ֔ין וּֽכְמִצְבְּיֵ֗הּ עָבֵד֙ בְּחֵ֣יל שְׁמַיָּ֔א *ודארי **וְדָיְרֵ֖י אַרְעָ֑א וְלָ֤א אִיתַי֙ דִּֽי־יְמַחֵ֣א בִידֵ֔הּ וְיֵ֥אמַר לֵ֖הּ מָ֥ה עֲבַֽדְתְּ׃
And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will.
33 αυτη τη ωρα ο λογος συνετελεσθη επι ναβουχοδονοσορ και απο των ανθρωπων εξεδιωχθη και χορτον ως βους ησθιεν και απο της δροσου του ουρανου το σωμα αυτου εβαφη εως ου αι τριχες αυτου ως λεοντων εμεγαλυνθησαν και οι ονυχες αυτου ως ορνεων
בֵּהּ־זִמְנָ֞א מַנְדְּעִ֣י ׀ יְת֣וּב עֲלַ֗י וְלִיקַ֨ר מַלְכוּתִ֜י הַדְרִ֤י וְזִוִי֙ יְת֣וּב עֲלַ֔י וְלִ֕י הַדָּֽבְרַ֥י וְרַבְרְבָנַ֖י יְבַע֑וֹן וְעַל־מַלְכוּתִ֣י הָתְקְנַ֔ת וּרְב֥וּ יַתִּירָ֖ה ה֥וּסְפַת לִֽי׃
The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.
34 και μετα το τελος των ημερων εγω ναβουχοδονοσορ τους οφθαλμους μου εις τον ουρανον ανελαβον και αι φρενες μου επ εμε επεστραφησαν και τω υψιστω ευλογησα και τω ζωντι εις τον αιωνα ηνεσα και εδοξασα οτι η εξουσια αυτου εξουσια αιωνιος και η βασιλεια αυτου εις γενεαν και γενεαν
כְּעַ֞ן אֲנָ֣ה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר מְשַׁבַּ֨ח וּמְרוֹמֵ֤ם וּמְהַדַּר֙ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ שְׁמַיָּ֔א דִּ֤י כָל־מַעֲבָד֙וֹהִי֙ קְשֹׁ֔ט וְאֹרְחָתֵ֖הּ דִּ֑ין וְדִי֙ מַהְלְכִ֣ין בְּגֵוָ֔ה יָכִ֖ל לְהַשְׁפָּלָֽה׃ פ
And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that lives for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
35 και παντες οι κατοικουντες την γην ως ουδεν ελογισθησαν και κατα το θελημα αυτου ποιει εν τη δυναμει του ουρανου και εν τη κατοικια της γης και ουκ εστιν ος αντιποιησεται τη χειρι αυτου και ερει αυτω τι εποιησας
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What do you?
36 αυτω τω καιρω αι φρενες μου επεστραφησαν επ εμε και εις την τιμην της βασιλειας μου ηλθον και η μορφη μου επεστρεψεν επ εμε και οι τυραννοι μου και οι μεγιστανες μου εζητουν με και επι την βασιλειαν μου εκραταιωθην και μεγαλωσυνη περισσοτερα προσετεθη μοι
At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
37 νυν ουν εγω ναβουχοδονοσορ αινω και υπερυψω και δοξαζω τον βασιλεα του ουρανου οτι παντα τα εργα αυτου αληθινα και αι τριβοι αυτου κρισις και παντας τους πορευομενους εν υπερηφανια δυναται ταπεινωσαι
Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to bring low.
