1 βροτος γαρ γεννητος γυναικος ολιγοβιος και πληρης οργης
ָ֭דָם יְל֣וּד אִשָּׁ֑ה קְצַ֥ר יָ֝מִ֗ים וּֽשְׂבַֽע־רֹֽגֶז׃
Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.
2 η ωσπερ ανθος ανθησαν εξεπεσεν απεδρα δε ωσπερ σκια και ου μη στη
ְּצִ֣יץ יָ֭צָא וַיִּמָּ֑ל וַיִּבְרַ֥ח כַּ֝צֵּ֗ל וְלֹ֣א יַעֲמֽוֹד׃
He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down: he flees also as a shadow, and continues not.
3 ουχι και τουτου λογον εποιησω και τουτον εποιησας εισελθειν εν κριματι ενωπιον σου
ַף־עַל־זֶ֭ה פָּקַ֣חְתָּ עֵינֶ֑ךָ וְאֹ֘תִ֤י תָבִ֖יא בְמִשְׁפָּ֣ט עִמָּֽךְ׃
And does you open yours eyes upon such an one, and bring me into judgment with you?
4 τις γαρ καθαρος εσται απο ρυπου αλλ ουθεις
ִֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן טָ֭הוֹר מִטָּמֵ֗א לֹ֣א אֶחָֽד׃
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 εαν και μια ημερα ο βιος αυτου επι της γης αριθμητοι δε μηνες αυτου παρα σοι εις χρονον εθου και ου μη υπερβη
ִ֥ם חֲרוּצִ֨ים ׀ יָמָ֗יו מִֽסְפַּר־חֳדָשָׁ֥יו אִתָּ֑ךְ *חקו **חֻקָּ֥יו עָ֝שִׂ֗יתָ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲבֽוֹר׃
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 αποστα απ αυτου ινα ησυχαση και ευδοκηση τον βιον ωσπερ ο μισθωτος
ְׁעֵ֣ה מֵעָלָ֣יו וְיֶחְדָּ֑ל עַד־יִ֝רְצֶ֗ה כְּשָׂכִ֥יר יוֹמֽוֹ׃
Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a worker, his day.
7 εστιν γαρ δενδρω ελπις εαν γαρ εκκοπη ετι επανθησει και ο ραδαμνος αυτου ου μη εκλιπη
ִּ֤י יֵ֥שׁ לָעֵ֗ץ תִּ֫קְוָ֥ה אִֽם־יִ֭כָּרֵת וְע֣וֹד יַחֲלִ֑יף וְ֝יֹֽנַקְתּ֗וֹ לֹ֣א תֶחְדָּֽל׃
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 εαν γαρ γηραση εν γη η ριζα αυτου εν δε πετρα τελευτηση το στελεχος αυτου
ִם־יַזְקִ֣ין בָּאָ֣רֶץ שָׁרְשׁ֑וֹ וּ֝בֶעָפָ֗ר יָמ֥וּת גִּזְעֽוֹ׃
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 απο οσμης υδατος ανθησει ποιησει δε θερισμον ωσπερ νεοφυτον
ֵרֵ֣יחַ מַ֣יִם יַפְרִ֑חַ וְעָשָׂ֖ה קָצִ֣יר כְּמוֹ־נָֽטַע׃
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
10 ανηρ δε τελευτησας ωχετο πεσων δε βροτος ουκετι εστιν
ְגֶ֣בֶר יָ֭מוּת וַֽיֶּחֱלָ֑שׁ וַיִּגְוַ֖ע אָדָ֣ם וְאַיּֽוֹ׃
But man dies, and wastes away: yea, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
11 χρονω γαρ σπανιζεται θαλασσα ποταμος δε ερημωθεις εξηρανθη
ָֽזְלוּ־מַ֭יִם מִנִּי־יָ֑ם וְ֝נָהָ֗ר יֶחֱרַ֥ב וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up:
12 ανθρωπος δε κοιμηθεις ου μη αναστη εως αν ο ουρανος ου μη συρραφη και ουκ εξυπνισθησονται εξ υπνου αυτων
ְאִ֥ישׁ שָׁכַ֗ב וְֽלֹא־יָ֫ק֥וּם עַד־בִּלְתִּ֣י שָׁ֭מַיִם לֹ֣א יָקִ֑יצוּ וְלֹֽא־יֵ֝עֹ֗רוּ מִשְּׁנָתָֽם׃
So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
13 ει γαρ οφελον εν αδη με εφυλαξας εκρυψας δε με εως αν παυσηται σου η οργη και ταξη μοι χρονον εν ω μνειαν μου ποιηση
ִ֤י יִתֵּ֨ן ׀ בִּשְׁא֬וֹל תַּצְפִּנֵ֗נִי תַּ֭סְתִּירֵנִי עַד־שׁ֣וּב אַפֶּ֑ךָ תָּ֤שִׁ֥ית לִ֖י חֹ֣ק וְתִזְכְּרֵֽנִי׃
O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!
14 εαν γαρ αποθανη ανθρωπος ζησεται συντελεσας ημερας του βιου αυτου υπομενω εως αν παλιν γενωμαι
ִם־יָמ֥וּת גֶּ֗בֶר הֲיִ֫חְיֶ֥ה כָּל־יְמֵ֣י צְבָאִ֣י אֲיַחֵ֑ל עַד־בּ֝֗וֹא חֲלִיפָתִֽי׃
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
15 ειτα καλεσεις εγω δε σοι υπακουσομαι τα δε εργα των χειρων σου μη αποποιου
ִּ֭קְרָא וְאָנֹכִ֣י אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ךָּ לְֽמַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדֶ֣יךָ תִכְסֹֽף׃
You shall call, and I will answer you: you will have a desire to the work of yours hands.
16 ηριθμησας δε μου τα επιτηδευματα και ου μη παρελθη σε ουδεν των αμαρτιων μου
ִּֽי־עַ֭תָּה צְעָדַ֣י תִּסְפּ֑וֹר לֹֽא־תִ֝שְׁמ֗וֹר עַל־חַטָּאתִֽי׃
For now you number my steps: do you not watch over my sin?
17 εσφραγισας δε μου τας ανομιας εν βαλλαντιω επεσημηνω δε ει τι ακων παρεβην
ָתֻ֣ם בִּצְר֣וֹר פִּשְׁעִ֑י וַ֝תִּטְפֹּ֗ל עַל־עֲוֺנִֽי׃
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you sew up mine iniquity.
18 και πλην ορος πιπτον διαπεσειται και πετρα παλαιωθησεται εκ του τοπου αυτης
ְ֭אוּלָם הַר־נוֹפֵ֣ל יִבּ֑וֹל וְ֝צ֗וּר יֶעְתַּ֥ק מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃
And surely the mountains falling comes to nothing, and the rock is removed out of his place.
19 λιθους ελεαναν υδατα και κατεκλυσεν υδατα υπτια του χωματος της γης και υπομονην ανθρωπου απωλεσας
ֲבָנִ֤ים ׀ שָׁ֥חֲקוּ מַ֗יִם תִּשְׁטֹֽף־סְפִיחֶ֥יהָ עֲפַר־אָ֑רֶץ וְתִקְוַ֖ת אֱנ֣וֹשׁ הֶאֱבַֽדְתָּ׃
The waters wear the stones: you wash away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and you destroys the hope of man.
20 ωσας αυτον εις τελος και ωχετο επεστησας αυτω το προσωπον και εξαπεστειλας
ִּתְקְפֵ֣הוּ לָ֭נֶצַח וַֽיַּהֲלֹ֑ךְ מְשַׁנֶּ֥ה פָ֝נָ֗יו וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵֽהוּ׃
You prevail for ever against him, and he passes: you change his countenance, and send him away.
21 πολλων δε γενομενων των υιων αυτου ουκ οιδεν εαν δε ολιγοι γενωνται ουκ επισταται
ִכְבְּד֣וּ בָ֭נָיו וְלֹ֣א יֵדָ֑ע וְ֝יִצְעֲר֗וּ וְֽלֹא־יָבִ֥ין לָֽמוֹ׃
His sons come to honour, and he knows it not; and they are brought low, but he perceives it not of them.
22 αλλ η αι σαρκες αυτου ηλγησαν η δε ψυχη αυτου επενθησεν
ַךְ־בְּ֭שָׂרוֹ עָלָ֣יו יִכְאָ֑ב וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ עָלָ֥יו תֶּאֱבָֽל׃ פ
But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
