1 ουαι τοις γραφουσιν πονηριαν γραφοντες γαρ πονηριαν γραφουσιν
֥וֹי הַחֹֽקְקִ֖ים חִקְקֵי־אָ֑וֶן וּֽמְכַתְּבִ֥ים עָמָ֖ל כִּתֵּֽבוּ׃
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
2 εκκλινοντες κρισιν πτωχων αρπαζοντες κριμα πενητων του λαου μου ωστε ειναι αυτοις χηραν εις αρπαγην και ορφανον εις προνομην
ְהַטּ֤וֹת מִדִּין֙ דַּלִּ֔ים וְלִגְזֹ֕ל מִשְׁפַּ֖ט עֲנִיֵּ֣י עַמִּ֑י לִהְי֤וֹת אַלְמָנוֹת֙ שְׁלָלָ֔ם וְאֶת־יְתוֹמִ֖ים יָבֹֽזּוּ׃
To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
3 και τι ποιησουσιν εν τη ημερα της επισκοπης η γαρ θλιψις υμιν πορρωθεν ηξει και προς τινα καταφευξεσθε του βοηθηθηναι και που καταλειψετε την δοξαν υμων
ּמַֽה־תַּעֲשׂוּ֙ לְי֣וֹם פְּקֻדָּ֔ה וּלְשׁוֹאָ֖ה מִמֶּרְחָ֣ק תָּב֑וֹא עַל־מִי֙ תָּנ֣וּסוּ לְעֶזְרָ֔ה וְאָ֥נָה תַעַזְב֖וּ כְּבוֹדְכֶֽם׃
And what will all of you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will all of you flee for help? and where will all of you leave your glory?
4 του μη εμπεσειν εις επαγωγην επι πασι τουτοις ουκ απεστραφη ο θυμος αλλ ετι η χειρ υψηλη
ִּלְתִּ֤י כָרַע֙ תַּ֣חַת אַסִּ֔יר וְתַ֥חַת הֲרוּגִ֖ים יִפֹּ֑לוּ בְּכָל־זֹאת֙ לֹא־שָׁ֣ב אַפּ֔וֹ וְע֖וֹד יָד֥וֹ נְטוּיָֽה׃ ס
Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

God’s Judgment on Assyria
ουαι ασσυριοις η ραβδος του θυμου μου και οργης εστιν εν ταις χερσιν αυτων
֥וֹי אַשּׁ֖וּר שֵׁ֣בֶט אַפִּ֑י וּמַטֶּה־ה֥וּא בְיָדָ֖ם זַעְמִֽי׃
O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
6 την οργην μου εις εθνος ανομον αποστελω και τω εμω λαω συνταξω ποιησαι σκυλα και προνομην και καταπατειν τας πολεις και θειναι αυτας εις κονιορτον
ְּג֤וֹי חָנֵף֙ אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔נּוּ וְעַל־עַ֥ם עֶבְרָתִ֖י אֲצַוֶּ֑נּוּ לִשְׁלֹ֤ל שָׁלָל֙ וְלָבֹ֣ז בַּ֔ז *ולשימו **וּלְשׂוּמ֥וֹ מִרְמָ֖ס כְּחֹ֥מֶר חוּצֽוֹת׃
I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7 αυτος δε ουχ ουτως ενεθυμηθη και τη ψυχη ουχ ουτως λελογισται αλλα απαλλαξει ο νους αυτου και του εθνη εξολεθρευσαι ουκ ολιγα
ְהוּא֙ לֹא־כֵ֣ן יְדַמֶּ֔ה וּלְבָב֖וֹ לֹא־כֵ֣ן יַחְשֹׁ֑ב כִּ֚י לְהַשְׁמִ֣יד בִּלְבָב֔וֹ וּלְהַכְרִ֥ית גּוֹיִ֖ם לֹ֥א מְעָֽט׃
Nevertheless he means not so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
8 και εαν ειπωσιν αυτω συ μονος ει αρχων
ִּ֖י יֹאמַ֑ר הֲלֹ֥א שָׂרַ֛י יַחְדָּ֖ו מְלָכִֽים׃
For he says, Are not my princes altogether kings?
9 και ερει ουκ ελαβον την χωραν την επανω βαβυλωνος και χαλαννη ου ο πυργος ωκοδομηθη και ελαβον αραβιαν και δαμασκον και σαμαρειαν
ֲלֹ֥א כְּכַרְכְּמִ֖ישׁ כַּלְנ֑וֹ אִם־לֹ֤א כְאַרְפַּד֙ חֲמָ֔ת אִם־לֹ֥א כְדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃
Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?
10 ον τροπον ταυτας ελαβον εν τη χειρι μου και πασας τας αρχας λημψομαι ολολυξατε τα γλυπτα εν ιερουσαλημ και εν σαμαρεια
ַּאֲשֶׁר֙ מָצְאָ֣ה יָדִ֔י לְמַמְלְכֹ֖ת הָאֱלִ֑יל וּפְסִ֣ילֵיהֶ֔ם מִירֽוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם וּמִשֹּׁמְרֽוֹן׃
As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
11 ον τροπον γαρ εποιησα σαμαρεια και τοις χειροποιητοις αυτης ουτως ποιησω και ιερουσαλημ και τοις ειδωλοις αυτης
ֲלֹ֗א כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֛יתִי לְשֹׁמְר֖וֹן וְלֶאֱלִילֶ֑יהָ כֵּ֛ן אֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה לִירוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם וְלַעֲצַבֶּֽיהָ׃ ס
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
12 και εσται οταν συντελεση κυριος παντα ποιων εν τω ορει σιων και εν ιερουσαλημ επαξει επι τον νουν τον μεγαν τον αρχοντα των ασσυριων και επι το υψος της δοξης των οφθαλμων αυτου
ְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי־יְבַצַּ֤ע אֲדֹנָי֙ אֶת־כָּל־מֽ͏ַעֲשֵׂ֔הוּ בְּהַ֥ר צִיּ֖וֹן וּבִירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם אֶפְקֹ֗ד עַל־פְּרִי־גֹ֙דֶל֙ לְבַ֣ב מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁ֔וּר וְעַל־תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת ר֥וּם עֵינָֽיו׃
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
13 ειπεν γαρ τη ισχυι ποιησω και τη σοφια της συνεσεως αφελω ορια εθνων και την ισχυν αυτων προνομευσω και σεισω πολεις κατοικουμενας
ִּ֣י אָמַ֗ר בְּכֹ֤חַ יָדִי֙ עָשִׂ֔יתִי וּבְחָכְמָתִ֖י כִּ֣י נְבֻנ֑וֹתִי וְאָסִ֣יר ׀ גְּבוּלֹ֣ת עַמִּ֗ים *ועתידתיהם **וַעֲתוּדֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ שׁוֹשֵׂ֔תִי וְאוֹרִ֥יד כַּאבִּ֖יר יוֹשְׁבִֽים׃
For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:
14 και την οικουμενην ολην καταλημψομαι τη χειρι ως νοσσιαν και ως καταλελειμμενα ωα αρω και ουκ εστιν ος διαφευξεται με η αντειπη μοι
ַתִּמְצָ֨א כַקֵּ֤ן ׀ יָדִי֙ לְחֵ֣יל הָֽעַמִּ֔ים וְכֶאֱסֹף֙ בֵּיצִ֣ים עֲזֻב֔וֹת כָּל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲנִ֣י אָסָ֑פְתִּי וְלֹ֤א הָיָה֙ נֹדֵ֣ד כָּנָ֔ף וּפֹצֶ֥ה פֶ֖ה וּמְצַפְצֵֽף׃
And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
15 μη δοξασθησεται αξινη ανευ του κοπτοντος εν αυτη η υψωθησεται πριων ανευ του ελκοντος αυτον ωσαυτως εαν τις αρη ραβδον η ξυλον
ֲיִתְפָּאֵר֙ הַגַּרְזֶ֔ן עַ֖ל הַחֹצֵ֣ב בּ֑וֹ אִם־יִתְגַּדֵּ֤ל הַמַּשּׂוֹר֙ עַל־מְנִיפ֔וֹ כְּהָנִ֥יף שֵׁ֙בֶט֙ וְאֶת־מְרִימָ֔יו כְּהָרִ֥ים מַטֶּ֖ה לֹא־עֵֽץ׃
Shall the axe boast itself against him that hews therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
16 και ουχ ουτως αλλα αποστελει κυριος σαβαωθ εις την σην τιμην ατιμιαν και εις την σην δοξαν πυρ καιομενον καυθησεται
ָ֠כֵן יְשַׁלַּ֨ח הָאָד֜וֹן יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת בְּמִשְׁמַנָּ֖יו רָז֑וֹן וְתַ֧חַת כְּבֹד֛וֹ יֵקַ֥ד יְקֹ֖ד כִּיק֥וֹד אֵֽשׁ׃
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
17 και εσται το φως του ισραηλ εις πυρ και αγιασει αυτον εν πυρι καιομενω και φαγεται ωσει χορτον την υλην τη ημερα εκεινη
ְהָיָ֤ה אֽוֹר־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְאֵ֔שׁ וּקְדוֹשׁ֖וֹ לְלֶהָבָ֑ה וּבָעֲרָ֗ה וְאָֽכְלָ֛ה שִׁית֥וֹ וּשְׁמִיר֖וֹ בְּי֥וֹם אֶחָֽד׃
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;
18 αποσβεσθησεται τα ορη και οι βουνοι και οι δρυμοι και καταφαγεται απο ψυχης εως σαρκων και εσται ο φευγων ως ο φευγων απο φλογος καιομενης
ּכְב֤וֹד יַעְרוֹ֙ וְכַרְמִלּ֔וֹ מִנֶּ֥פֶשׁ וְעַד־בָּשָׂ֖ר יְכַלֶּ֑ה וְהָיָ֖ה כִּמְסֹ֥ס נֹסֵֽס׃
And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints.
19 και οι καταλειφθεντες απ αυτων εσονται αριθμος και παιδιον γραψει αυτους
ּשְׁאָ֥ר עֵ֛ץ יַעְר֖וֹ מִסְפָּ֣ר יִֽהְי֑וּ וְנַ֖עַר יִכְתְּבֵֽם׃ פ
And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

The Remnant of Israel
και εσται εν τη ημερα εκεινη ουκετι προστεθησεται το καταλειφθεν ισραηλ και οι σωθεντες του ιακωβ ουκετι μη πεποιθοτες ωσιν επι τους αδικησαντας αυτους αλλα εσονται πεποιθοτες επι τον θεον τον αγιον του ισραηλ τη αληθεια
ְהָיָ֣ה ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא לֹֽא־יוֹסִ֨יף ע֜וֹד שְׁאָ֤ר יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וּפְלֵיטַ֣ת בֵּֽית־יַעֲקֹ֔ב לְהִשָּׁעֵ֖ן עַל־מַכֵּ֑הוּ וְנִשְׁעַ֗ן עַל־יְהוָ֛ה קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בֶּאֱמֶֽת׃
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that stroke them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 και εσται το καταλειφθεν του ιακωβ επι θεον ισχυοντα
ְׁאָ֥ר יָשׁ֖וּב שְׁאָ֣ר יַעֲקֹ֑ב אֶל־אֵ֖ל גִּבּֽוֹר׃
The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
22 και εαν γενηται ο λαος ισραηλ ως η αμμος της θαλασσης το καταλειμμα αυτων σωθησεται λογον γαρ συντελων και συντεμνων εν δικαιοσυνη
ִּ֣י אִם־יִהְיֶ֞ה עַמְּךָ֤ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כְּח֣וֹל הַיָּ֔ם שְׁאָ֖ר יָשׁ֣וּב בּ֑וֹ כִּלָּי֥וֹן חָר֖וּץ שׁוֹטֵ֥ף צְדָקָֽה׃
For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 οτι λογον συντετμημενον ποιησει ο θεος εν τη οικουμενη ολη
ִּ֥י כָלָ֖ה וְנֶחֱרָצָ֑ה אֲדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת עֹשֶׂ֖ה בְּקֶ֥רֶב כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ ס
For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
24 δια τουτο ταδε λεγει κυριος σαβαωθ μη φοβου ο λαος μου οι κατοικουντες εν σιων απο ασσυριων οτι εν ραβδω παταξει σε πληγην γαρ εγω επαγω επι σε του ιδειν οδον αιγυπτου
ָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת אַל־תִּירָ֥א עַמִּ֛י יֹשֵׁ֥ב צִיּ֖וֹן מֵֽאַשּׁ֑וּר בַּשֵּׁ֣בֶט יַכֶּ֔כָּה וּמַטֵּ֥הוּ יִשָּֽׂא־עָלֶ֖יךָ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall strike you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt.
25 ετι γαρ μικρον και παυσεται η οργη ο δε θυμος μου επι την βουλην αυτων
ִּי־ע֖וֹד מְעַ֣ט מִזְעָ֑ר וְכָ֣לָה זַ֔עַם וְאַפִּ֖י עַל־תַּבְלִיתָֽם׃
For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
26 και επεγερει ο θεος επ αυτους κατα την πληγην την μαδιαμ εν τοπω θλιψεως και ο θυμος αυτου τη οδω τη κατα θαλασσαν εις την οδον την κατ αιγυπτον
ְעוֹרֵ֨ר עָלָ֜יו יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ שׁ֔וֹט כְּמַכַּ֥ת מִדְיָ֖ן בְּצ֣וּר עוֹרֵ֑ב וּמַטֵּ֙הוּ֙ עַל־הַיָּ֔ם וּנְשָׂא֖וֹ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
27 και εσται εν τη ημερα εκεινη αφαιρεθησεται ο φοβος αυτου απο σου και ο ζυγος αυτου απο του ωμου σου και καταφθαρησεται ο ζυγος απο των ωμων υμων
ְהָיָ֣ה ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא יָס֤וּר סֻבֳּלוֹ֙ מֵעַ֣ל שִׁכְמֶ֔ךָ וְעֻלּ֖וֹ מֵעַ֣ל צַוָּארֶ֑ךָ וְחֻבַּ֥ל עֹ֖ל מִפְּנֵי־שָֽׁמֶן׃
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
28 ηξει γαρ εις την πολιν αγγαι και παρελευσεται εις μαγεδω και εν μαχμας θησει τα σκευη αυτου
ָּ֥א עַל־עַיַּ֖ת עָבַ֣ר בְּמִגְר֑וֹן לְמִכְמָ֖שׂ יַפְקִ֥יד כֵּלָֽיו׃
He has come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he has laid up his carriages:
29 και παρελευσεται φαραγγα και ηξει εις αγγαι φοβος λημψεται ραμα πολιν σαουλ φευξεται
ָֽבְרוּ֙ מַעְבָּרָ֔ה גֶּ֖בַע מָל֣וֹן לָ֑נוּ חָֽרְדָה֙ הָֽרָמָ֔ה גִּבְעַ֥ת שָׁא֖וּל נָֽסָה׃
They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.
30 η θυγατηρ γαλλιμ επακουσεται λαισα επακουσεται αναθωθ
ַהֲלִ֥י קוֹלֵ֖ךְ בַּת־גַּלִּ֑ים הַקְשִׁ֥יבִי לַ֖יְשָׁה עֲנִיָּ֥ה עֲנָתֽוֹת׃
Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.
31 εξεστη μαδεβηνα και οι κατοικουντες γιββιρ παρακαλειτε
ָדְדָ֖ה מַדְמֵנָ֑ה יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הַגֵּבִ֖ים הֵעִֽיזוּ׃
Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
32 σημερον εν οδω του μειναι τη χειρι παρακαλειτε το ορος την θυγατερα σιων και οι βουνοι οι εν ιερουσαλημ
֥וֹד הַיּ֖וֹם בְּנֹ֣ב לַֽעֲמֹ֑ד יְנֹפֵ֤ף יָדוֹ֙ הַ֣ר *בית־**בַּת־צִיּ֔וֹן גִּבְעַ֖ת יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ ס
As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33 ιδου γαρ ο δεσποτης κυριος σαβαωθ συνταρασσει τους ενδοξους μετα ισχυος και οι υψηλοι τη υβρει συντριβησονται και οι υψηλοι ταπεινωθησονται
ִנֵּ֤ה הָאָדוֹן֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת מְסָעֵ֥ף פֻּארָ֖ה בְּמַעֲרָצָ֑ה וְרָמֵ֤י הַקּוֹמָה֙ גְּדוּעִ֔ים וְהַגְּבֹהִ֖ים יִשְׁפָּֽלוּ׃
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall cut off the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
34 και πεσουνται οι υψηλοι μαχαιρα ο δε λιβανος συν τοις υψηλοις πεσειται
ְנִקַּ֛ף סִֽבְכֵ֥י הַיַּ֖עַר בַּבַּרְזֶ֑ל וְהַלְּבָנ֖וֹן בְּאַדִּ֥יר יִפּֽוֹל׃ ס
And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
