The Cupbearer and the Baker
εγενετο δε μετα τα ρηματα ταυτα ημαρτεν ο αρχιοινοχοος του βασιλεως αιγυπτου και ο αρχισιτοποιος τω κυριω αυτων βασιλει αιγυπτου
ַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה חָֽטְא֛וּ מַשְׁקֵ֥ה מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֖יִם וְהָאֹפֶ֑ה לַאֲדֹנֵיהֶ֖ם לְמֶ֥לֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.
2 και ωργισθη φαραω επι τοις δυσιν ευνουχοις αυτου επι τω αρχιοινοχοω και επι τω αρχισιτοποιω
ַיִּקְצֹ֣ף פַּרְעֹ֔ה עַ֖ל שְׁנֵ֣י סָרִיסָ֑יו עַ֚ל שַׂ֣ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֔ים וְעַ֖ל שַׂ֥ר הָאוֹפִֽים׃
And Pharaoh was angry against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
3 και εθετο αυτους εν φυλακη παρα τω δεσμοφυλακι εις το δεσμωτηριον εις τον τοπον ου ιωσηφ απηκτο εκει
ַיִּתֵּ֨ן אֹתָ֜ם בְּמִשְׁמַ֗ר בֵּ֛ית שַׂ֥ר הַטַבָּחִ֖ים אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הַסֹּ֑הַר מְק֕וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יוֹסֵ֖ף אָס֥וּר שָֽׁם׃
And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4 και συνεστησεν ο αρχιδεσμωτης τω ιωσηφ αυτους και παρεστη αυτοις ησαν δε ημερας εν τη φυλακη
ַ֠יִּפְקֹד שַׂ֣ר הַטַּבָּחִ֧ים אֶת־יוֹסֵ֛ף אִתָּ֖ם וַיְשָׁ֣רֶת אֹתָ֑ם וַיִּהְי֥וּ יָמִ֖ים בְּמִשְׁמָֽר׃
And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
5 και ειδον αμφοτεροι ενυπνιον εκατερος ενυπνιον εν μια νυκτι ορασις του ενυπνιου αυτου ο αρχιοινοχοος και ο αρχισιτοποιος οι ησαν τω βασιλει αιγυπτου οι οντες εν τω δεσμωτηριω
ַיַּֽחַלְמוּ֩ חֲל֨וֹם שְׁנֵיהֶ֜ם אִ֤ישׁ חֲלֹמוֹ֙ בְּלַ֣יְלָה אֶחָ֔ד אִ֖ישׁ כְּפִתְר֣וֹן חֲלֹמ֑וֹ הַמַּשְׁקֶ֣ה וְהָאֹפֶ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֙ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲסוּרִ֖ים בְּבֵ֥ית הַסֹּֽהַר׃
And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6 εισηλθεν δε προς αυτους ιωσηφ το πρωι και ειδεν αυτους και ησαν τεταραγμενοι
ַיָּבֹ֧א אֲלֵיהֶ֛ם יוֹסֵ֖ף בַּבֹּ֑קֶר וַיַּ֣רְא אֹתָ֔ם וְהִנָּ֖ם זֹעֲפִֽים׃
And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
7 και ηρωτα τους ευνουχους φαραω οι ησαν μετ αυτου εν τη φυλακη παρα τω κυριω αυτου λεγων τι οτι τα προσωπα υμων σκυθρωπα σημερον
ַיִּשְׁאַ֞ל אֶת־סְרִיסֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אִתּ֧וֹ בְמִשְׁמַ֛ר בֵּ֥ית אֲדֹנָ֖יו לֵאמֹ֑ר מַדּ֛וּעַ פְּנֵיכֶ֥ם רָעִ֖ים הַיּֽוֹם׃
And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look all of you so sadly to day?
8 οι δε ειπαν αυτω ενυπνιον ειδομεν και ο συγκρινων ουκ εστιν αυτο ειπεν δε αυτοις ιωσηφ ουχι δια του θεου η διασαφησις αυτων εστιν διηγησασθε ουν μοι
ַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו חֲל֣וֹם חָלַ֔מְנוּ וּפֹתֵ֖ר אֵ֣ין אֹת֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֜ם יוֹסֵ֗ף הֲל֤וֹא לֽ͏ֵאלֹהִים֙ פִּתְרֹנִ֔ים סַפְּרוּ־נָ֖א לִֽי׃
And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9 και διηγησατο ο αρχιοινοχοος το ενυπνιον αυτου τω ιωσηφ και ειπεν εν τω υπνω μου ην αμπελος εναντιον μου
ַיְסַפֵּ֧ר שַֽׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִ֛ים אֶת־חֲלֹמ֖וֹ לְיוֹסֵ֑ף וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ בַּחֲלוֹמִ֕י וְהִנֵּה־גֶ֖פֶן לְפָנָֽי׃
And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10 εν δε τη αμπελω τρεις πυθμενες και αυτη θαλλουσα ανενηνοχυια βλαστους πεπειροι οι βοτρυες σταφυλης
ּבַגֶּ֖פֶן שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה שָׂרִיגִ֑ם וְהִ֤יא כְפֹרַ֙חַת֙ עָלְתָ֣ה נִצָּ֔הּ הִבְשִׁ֥ילוּ אַשְׁכְּלֹתֶ֖יהָ עֲנָבִֽים׃
And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11 και το ποτηριον φαραω εν τη χειρι μου και ελαβον την σταφυλην και εξεθλιψα αυτην εις το ποτηριον και εδωκα το ποτηριον εις τας χειρας φαραω
ְכ֥וֹס פַּרְעֹ֖ה בְּיָדִ֑י וָאֶקַּ֣ח אֶת־הָֽעֲנָבִ֗ים וָֽאֶשְׂחַ֤ט אֹתָם֙ אֶל־כּ֣וֹס פַּרְעֹ֔ה וָאֶתֵּ֥ן אֶת־הַכּ֖וֹס עַל־כַּ֥ף פַּרְעֹֽה׃
And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
12 και ειπεν αυτω ιωσηφ τουτο η συγκρισις αυτου οι τρεις πυθμενες τρεις ημεραι εισιν
ַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ יוֹסֵ֔ף זֶ֖ה פִּתְרֹנ֑וֹ שְׁלֹ֙שֶׁת֙ הַשָּׂ֣רִגִ֔ים שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים הֵֽם׃
And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13 ετι τρεις ημεραι και μνησθησεται φαραω της αρχης σου και αποκαταστησει σε επι την αρχιοινοχοιαν σου και δωσεις το ποτηριον φαραω εις την χειρα αυτου κατα την αρχην σου την προτεραν ως ησθα οινοχοων
ְּע֣וֹד ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֗ים יִשָּׂ֤א פַרְעֹה֙ אֶת־רֹאשֶׁ֔ךָ וַהֲשִֽׁיבְךָ֖ עַל־כַּנֶּ֑ךָ וְנָתַתָּ֤ כוֹס־פַּרְעֹה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ כַּמִּשְׁפָּט֙ הָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיִ֖יתָ מַשְׁקֵֽהוּ׃
Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up yours head, and restore you unto your place: and you shall deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when you were his butler.
14 αλλα μνησθητι μου δια σεαυτου οταν ευ σοι γενηται και ποιησεις εν εμοι ελεος και μνησθηση περι εμου φαραω και εξαξεις με εκ του οχυρωματος τουτου
ִּ֧י אִם־זְכַרְתַּ֣נִי אִתְּךָ֗ כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ יִ֣יטַב לָ֔ךְ וְעָשִֽׂיתָ־נָּ֥א עִמָּדִ֖י חָ֑סֶד וְהִזְכַּרְתַּ֙נִי֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְהוֹצֵאתַ֖נִי מִן־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃
But think on me when it shall be well with you, and show kindness, I pray you, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15 οτι κλοπη εκλαπην εκ γης εβραιων και ωδε ουκ εποιησα ουδεν αλλ ενεβαλον με εις τον λακκον τουτον
ִּֽי־גֻנֹּ֣ב גֻּנַּ֔בְתִּי מֵאֶ֖רֶץ הָעִבְרִ֑ים וְגַם־פֹּה֙ לֹא־עָשִׂ֣יתִֽי מְא֔וּמָה כִּֽי־שָׂמ֥וּ אֹתִ֖י בַּבּֽוֹר׃
For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
16 και ειδεν ο αρχισιτοποιος οτι ορθως συνεκρινεν και ειπεν τω ιωσηφ καγω ειδον ενυπνιον και ωμην τρια κανα χονδριτων αιρειν επι της κεφαλης μου
ַיַּ֥רְא שַׂר־הָאֹפִ֖ים כִּ֣י ט֣וֹב פָּתָ֑ר וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־יוֹסֵ֔ף אַף־אֲנִי֙ בַּחֲלוֹמִ֔י וְהִנֵּ֗ה שְׁלֹשָׁ֛ה סַלֵּ֥י חֹרִ֖י עַל־רֹאשִֽׁי׃
When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17 εν δε τω κανω τω επανω απο παντων των γενων ων ο βασιλευς φαραω εσθιει εργον σιτοποιου και τα πετεινα του ουρανου κατησθιεν αυτα απο του κανου του επανω της κεφαλης μου
ּבַסַּ֣ל הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן מִכֹּ֛ל מַאֲכַ֥ל פַּרְעֹ֖ה מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה אֹפֶ֑ה וְהָע֗וֹף אֹכֵ֥ל אֹתָ֛ם מִן־הַסַּ֖ל מֵעַ֥ל רֹאשִֽׁי׃
And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
18 αποκριθεις δε ιωσηφ ειπεν αυτω αυτη η συγκρισις αυτου τα τρια κανα τρεις ημεραι εισιν
ַיַּ֤עַן יוֹסֵף֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר זֶ֖ה פִּתְרֹנ֑וֹ שְׁלֹ֙שֶׁת֙ הַסַּלִּ֔ים שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים הֵֽם׃
And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
19 ετι τριων ημερων αφελει φαραω την κεφαλην σου απο σου και κρεμασει σε επι ξυλου και φαγεται τα ορνεα του ουρανου τας σαρκας σου απο σου
ְּע֣וֹד ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֗ים יִשָּׂ֨א פַרְעֹ֤ה אֶת־רֹֽאשְׁךָ֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ וְתָלָ֥ה אוֹתְךָ֖ עַל־עֵ֑ץ וְאָכַ֥ל הָע֛וֹף אֶת־בְּשָׂרְךָ֖ מֵעָלֶֽיךָ׃
Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up your head from off you, and shall hang you on a tree; and the birds shall eat your flesh from off you.
20 εγενετο δε εν τη ημερα τη τριτη ημερα γενεσεως ην φαραω και εποιει ποτον πασι τοις παισιν αυτου και εμνησθη της αρχης του αρχιοινοχοου και της αρχης του αρχισιτοποιου εν μεσω των παιδων αυτου
ַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י י֚וֹם הֻלֶּ֣דֶת אֶת־פַּרְעֹ֔ה וַיַּ֥עַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּ֖ה לְכָל־עֲבָדָ֑יו וַיִּשָּׂ֞א אֶת־רֹ֣אשׁ ׀ שַׂ֣ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֗ים וְאֶת־רֹ֛אשׁ שַׂ֥ר הָאֹפִ֖ים בְּת֥וֹךְ עֲבָדָֽיו׃
And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 και απεκατεστησεν τον αρχιοινοχοον επι την αρχην αυτου και εδωκεν το ποτηριον εις την χειρα φαραω
ַיָּ֛שֶׁב אֶת־שַׂ֥ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֖ים עַל־מַשְׁקֵ֑הוּ וַיִּתֵּ֥ן הַכּ֖וֹס עַל־כַּ֥ף פַּרְעֹֽה׃
And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:
22 τον δε αρχισιτοποιον εκρεμασεν καθα συνεκρινεν αυτοις ιωσηφ
ְאֵ֛ת שַׂ֥ר הָאֹפִ֖ים תָּלָ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּתַ֛ר לָהֶ֖ם יוֹסֵֽף׃
But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 ουκ εμνησθη δε ο αρχιοινοχοος του ιωσηφ αλλα επελαθετο αυτου
ְלֹֽא־זָכַ֧ר שַֽׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִ֛ים אֶת־יוֹסֵ֖ף וַיִּשְׁכָּחֵֽהוּ׃ פ
Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgotten about him.
