Towns for the Levites
και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην επι δυσμων μωαβ παρα τον ιορδανην κατα ιεριχω λεγων
ַיְדַבֵּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעַֽרְבֹ֣ת מוֹאָ֑ב עַל־יַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵח֖וֹ לֵאמֹֽר׃
And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
2 συνταξον τοις υιοις ισραηλ και δωσουσιν τοις λευιταις απο των κληρων κατασχεσεως αυτων πολεις κατοικειν και τα προαστεια των πολεων κυκλω αυτων δωσουσιν τοις λευιταις
ַו֮ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וְנָתְנ֣וּ לַלְוִיִּ֗ם מִֽנַּחֲלַ֛ת אֲחֻזָּתָ֖ם עָרִ֣ים לָשָׁ֑בֶת וּמִגְרָ֗שׁ לֶֽעָרִים֙ סְבִיבֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם תִּתְּנ֖וּ לַלְוִיִּֽם׃
Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and all of you shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
3 και εσονται αυτοις αι πολεις κατοικειν και τα αφορισματα αυτων εσται τοις κτηνεσιν αυτων και πασι τοις τετραποσιν αυτων
ְהָי֧וּ הֽ͏ֶעָרִ֛ים לָהֶ֖ם לָשָׁ֑בֶת וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֗ם יִהְי֤וּ לִבְהֶמְתָּם֙ וְלִרְכֻשָׁ֔ם וּלְכֹ֖ל חַיָּתָֽם׃
And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
4 και τα συγκυρουντα των πολεων ας δωσετε τοις λευιταις απο τειχους της πολεως και εξω δισχιλιους πηχεις κυκλω
ּמִגְרְשֵׁי֙ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּתְּנ֖וּ לַלְוִיִּ֑ם מִקִּ֤יר הָעִיר֙ וָח֔וּצָה אֶ֥לֶף אַמָּ֖ה סָבִֽיב׃
And the suburbs of the cities, which all of you shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
5 και μετρησεις εξω της πολεως το κλιτος το προς ανατολας δισχιλιους πηχεις και το κλιτος το προς λιβα δισχιλιους πηχεις και το κλιτος το προς θαλασσαν δισχιλιους πηχεις και το κλιτος το προς βορραν δισχιλιους πηχεις και η πολις μεσον τουτου εσται υμιν και τα ομορα των πολεων
ּמַדֹּתֶ֞ם מִח֣וּץ לָעִ֗יר אֶת־פְּאַת־קֵ֣דְמָה אַלְפַּ֪יִם בָּֽאַמָּ֟ה וְאֶת־פְּאַת־נֶגֶב֩ אַלְפַּ֨יִם בָּאַמָּ֜ה וְאֶת־פְּאַת־יָ֣ם ׀ אַלְפַּ֣יִם בָּֽאַמָּ֗ה וְאֵ֨ת פְּאַ֥ת צָפ֛וֹן אַלְפַּ֥יִם בָּאַמָּ֖ה וְהָעִ֣יר בַּתָּ֑וֶךְ זֶ֚ה יִהְיֶ֣ה לָהֶ֔ם מִגְרְשֵׁ֖י הֶעָרִֽים׃
And all of you shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

Cities of Refuge
και τας πολεις δωσετε τοις λευιταις τας εξ πολεις των φυγαδευτηριων ας δωσετε φευγειν εκει τω φονευσαντι και προς ταυταις τεσσαρακοντα και δυο πολεις
ְאֵ֣ת הֶֽעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ לַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֵ֚ת שֵׁשׁ־עָרֵ֣י הַמִּקְלָ֔ט אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתְּנ֔וּ לָנֻ֥ס שָׁ֖מָּה הָרֹצֵ֑חַ וַעֲלֵיהֶ֣ם תִּתְּנ֔וּ אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁתַּ֖יִם עִֽיר׃
And among the cities which all of you shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which all of you shall appoint for the murderer, that he may flee thither: and to them all of you shall add forty and two cities.
7 πασας τας πολεις δωσετε τοις λευιταις τεσσαρακοντα και οκτω πολεις ταυτας και τα προαστεια αυτων
ָּל־הֶעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ לַלְוִיִּ֔ם אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה עִ֑יר אֶתְהֶ֖ן וְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃
So all the cities which all of you shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall all of you give with their suburbs.
8 και τας πολεις ας δωσετε απο της κατασχεσεως υιων ισραηλ απο των τα πολλα πολλα και απο των ελαττονων ελαττω εκαστος κατα την κληρονομιαν αυτου ην κληρονομησουσιν δωσουσιν απο των πολεων τοις λευιταις
ְהֶֽעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ מֵאֲחֻזַּ֣ת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵאֵ֤ת הָרַב֙ תַּרְבּ֔וּ וּמֵאֵ֥ת הַמְעַ֖ט תַּמְעִ֑יטוּ אִ֗ישׁ כְּפִ֤י נַחֲלָתוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִנְחָ֔לוּ יִתֵּ֥ן מֵעָרָ֖יו לַלְוִיִּֽם׃ פ
And the cities which all of you shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many all of you shall give many; but from them that have few all of you shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inherits.
9 και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων
ַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
10 λαλησον τοις υιοις ισραηλ και ερεις προς αυτους υμεις διαβαινετε τον ιορδανην εις γην χανααν
ַּבֵּר֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ אֲלֵהֶ֑ם כִּ֥י אַתֶּ֛ם עֹבְרִ֥ים אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן׃
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When all of you be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;
11 και διαστελειτε υμιν αυτοις πολεις φυγαδευτηρια εσται υμιν φυγειν εκει τον φονευτην πας ο παταξας ψυχην ακουσιως
ְהִקְרִיתֶ֤ם לָכֶם֙ עָרִ֔ים עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶ֣ינָה לָכֶ֑ם וְנָ֥ס שָׁ֙מָּה֙ רֹצֵ֔חַ מַכֵּה־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָֽה׃
Then all of you shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which kills any person at unexpectedly.
12 και εσονται αι πολεις υμιν φυγαδευτηρια απο αγχιστευοντος το αιμα και ου μη αποθανη ο φονευων εως αν στη εναντι της συναγωγης εις κρισιν
ְהָי֨וּ לָכֶ֧ם הֶעָרִ֛ים לְמִקְלָ֖ט מִגֹּאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֤א יָמוּת֙ הָרֹצֵ֔חַ עַד־עָמְד֛וֹ לִפְנֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃
And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the murderer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
13 και αι πολεις ας δωσετε τας εξ πολεις φυγαδευτηρια εσονται υμιν
ְהֶעָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתֵּ֑נוּ שֵׁשׁ־עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶ֥ינָה לָכֶֽם׃
And of these cities which all of you shall give six cities shall all of you have for refuge.
14 τας τρεις πολεις δωσετε εν τω περαν του ιορδανου και τας τρεις πολεις δωσετε εν γη χανααν
ֵ֣ת ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ הֶעָרִ֗ים תִּתְּנוּ֙ מֵעֵ֣בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וְאֵת֙ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים תִּתְּנ֖וּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶֽינָה׃
All of you shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall all of you give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.
15 φυγαδιον εσται τοις υιοις ισραηλ και τω προσηλυτω και τω παροικω τω εν υμιν εσονται αι πολεις αυται εις φυγαδευτηριον φυγειν εκει παντι παταξαντι ψυχην ακουσιως
ִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְלַגֵּ֤ר וְלַתּוֹשָׁב֙ בְּתוֹכָ֔ם תִּהְיֶ֛ינָה שֵׁשׁ־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה לְמִקְלָ֑ט לָנ֣וּס שָׁ֔מָּה כָּל־מַכֵּה־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָֽה׃
These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that kills any person unexpectedly may flee thither.
16 εαν δε εν σκευει σιδηρου παταξη αυτον και τελευτηση φονευτης εστιν θανατω θανατουσθω ο φονευτης
ְאִם־בִּכְלִ֨י בַרְזֶ֧ל ׀ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃
And if he strike him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17 εαν δε εν λιθω εκ χειρος εν ω αποθανειται εν αυτω παταξη αυτον και αποθανη φονευτης εστιν θανατω θανατουσθω ο φονευτης
ְאִ֡ם בְּאֶ֣בֶן יָד֩ אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֨וּת בָּ֥הּ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃
And if he strike him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
18 εαν δε εν σκευει ξυλινω εκ χειρος εξ ου αποθανειται εν αυτω παταξη αυτον και αποθανη φονευτης εστιν θανατω θανατουσθω ο φονευτης
֡וֹ בִּכְלִ֣י עֵֽץ־יָד֩ אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֨וּת בּ֥וֹ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃
Or if he strike him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
19 ο αγχιστευων το αιμα ουτος αποκτενει τον φονευσαντα οταν συναντηση αυτω ουτος αποκτενει αυτον
ֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֔ם ה֥וּא יָמִ֖ית אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֑חַ בְּפִגְעוֹ־ב֖וֹ ה֥וּא יְמִיתֶֽנּוּ׃
The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meet him, he shall slay him.
20 εαν δε δι εχθραν ωση αυτον και επιρριψη επ αυτον παν σκευος εξ ενεδρου και αποθανη
ְאִם־בְּשִׂנְאָ֖ה יֶהְדָּפֶ֑נּוּ אֽוֹ־הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ עָלָ֛יו בִּצְדִיָּ֖ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃
But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
21 η δια μηνιν επαταξεν αυτον τη χειρι και αποθανη θανατω θανατουσθω ο παταξας φονευτης εστιν θανατω θανατουσθω ο φονευων ο αγχιστευων το αιμα αποκτενει τον φονευσαντα εν τω συναντησαι αυτω
֣וֹ בְאֵיבָ֞ה הִכָּ֤הוּ בְיָדוֹ֙ וַיָּמֹ֔ת מֽוֹת־יוּמַ֥ת הַמַּכֶּ֖ה רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֗ם יָמִ֛ית אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֖חַ בְּפִגְעוֹ־בֽוֹ׃
Or in enmity strike him with his hand, that he die: he that stroke him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meet him.
22 εαν δε εξαπινα ου δι εχθραν ωση αυτον η επιρριψη επ αυτον παν σκευος ουκ εξ ενεδρου
ְאִם־בְּפֶ֥תַע בְּלֹא־אֵיבָ֖ה הֲדָפ֑וֹ אוֹ־הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ עָלָ֛יו כָּל־כְּלִ֖י בְּלֹ֥א צְדִיָּֽה׃
But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
23 η παντι λιθω εν ω αποθανειται εν αυτω ουκ ειδως και επιπεση επ αυτον και αποθανη αυτος δε ουκ εχθρος αυτου ην ουδε ζητων κακοποιησαι αυτον
֣וֹ בְכָל־אֶ֜בֶן אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֥וּת בָּהּ֙ בְּלֹ֣א רְא֔וֹת וַיַּפֵּ֥ל עָלָ֖יו וַיָּמֹ֑ת וְהוּא֙ לֹא־אוֹיֵ֣ב ל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א מְבַקֵּ֖שׁ רָעָתֽוֹ׃
Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:
24 και κρινει η συναγωγη ανα μεσον του παταξαντος και ανα μεσον του αγχιστευοντος το αιμα κατα τα κριματα ταυτα
ְשָֽׁפְטוּ֙ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה בֵּ֚ין הַמַּכֶּ֔ה וּבֵ֖ין גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֑ם עַ֥ל הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃
Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
25 και εξελειται η συναγωγη τον φονευσαντα απο του αγχιστευοντος το αιμα και αποκαταστησουσιν αυτον η συναγωγη εις την πολιν του φυγαδευτηριου αυτου ου κατεφυγεν και κατοικησει εκει εως αν αποθανη ο ιερευς ο μεγας ον εχρισαν αυτον τω ελαιω τω αγιω
ְהִצִּ֨ילוּ הָעֵדָ֜ה אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֗חַ מִיַּד֮ גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּם֒ וְהֵשִׁ֤יבוּ אֹתוֹ֙ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה אֶל־עִ֥יר מִקְלָט֖וֹ אֲשֶׁר־נָ֣ס שָׁ֑מָּה וְיָ֣שַׁב בָּ֗הּ עַד־מוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־מָשַׁ֥ח אֹת֖וֹ בְּשֶׁ֥מֶן הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃
And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, where he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.
26 εαν δε εξοδω εξελθη ο φονευσας τα ορια της πολεως εις ην κατεφυγεν εκει
ְאִם־יָצֹ֥א יֵצֵ֖א הָרֹצֵ֑חַ אֶת־גְּבוּל֙ עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָנ֖וּס שָֽׁמָּה׃
But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, where he was fled;
27 και ευρη αυτον ο αγχιστευων το αιμα εξω των οριων της πολεως καταφυγης αυτου και φονευση ο αγχιστευων το αιμα τον φονευσαντα ουκ ενοχος εστιν
ּמָצָ֤א אֹתוֹ֙ גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֔ם מִח֕וּץ לִגְב֖וּל עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֑וֹ וְרָצַ֞ח גֹּאֵ֤ל הַדָּם֙ אֶת־הָ֣רֹצֵ֔חַ אֵ֥ין ל֖וֹ דָּֽם׃
And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
28 εν γαρ τη πολει της καταφυγης κατοικειτω εως αν αποθανη ο ιερευς ο μεγας και μετα το αποθανειν τον ιερεα τον μεγαν επαναστραφησεται ο φονευσας εις την γην της κατασχεσεως αυτου
ִּ֣י בְעִ֤יר מִקְלָטוֹ֙ יֵשֵׁ֔ב עַד־מ֖וֹת הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֑ל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י מוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֔ל יָשׁוּב֙ הָרֹצֵ֔חַ אֶל־אֶ֖רֶץ אֲחֻזָּתֽוֹ׃
Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
29 και εσται ταυτα υμιν εις δικαιωμα κριματος εις τας γενεας υμων εν πασαις ταις κατοικιαις υμων
ְהָי֨וּ אֵ֧לֶּה לָכֶ֛ם לְחֻקַּ֥ת מִשְׁפָּ֖ט לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בְּכֹ֖ל מוֹשְׁבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃
So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
30 πας παταξας ψυχην δια μαρτυρων φονευσεις τον φονευσαντα και μαρτυς εις ου μαρτυρησει επι ψυχην αποθανειν
ָּל־מַ֨כֵּה־נֶ֔פֶשׁ לְפִ֣י עֵדִ֔ים יִרְצַ֖ח אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֑חַ וְעֵ֣ד אֶחָ֔ד לֹא־יַעֲנֶ֥ה בְנֶ֖פֶשׁ לָמֽוּת׃
Whoso kills any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.
31 και ου λημψεσθε λυτρα περι ψυχης παρα του φονευσαντος του ενοχου οντος αναιρεθηναι θανατω γαρ θανατωθησεται
ְלֹֽא־תִקְח֥וּ כֹ֙פֶר֙ לְנֶ֣פֶשׁ רֹצֵ֔חַ אֲשֶׁר־ה֥וּא רָשָׁ֖ע לָמ֑וּת כִּי־מ֖וֹת יוּמָֽת׃
Moreover all of you shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
32 ου λημψεσθε λυτρα του φυγειν εις πολιν των φυγαδευτηριων του παλιν κατοικειν επι της γης εως αν αποθανη ο ιερευς ο μεγας
ְלֹא־תִקְח֣וּ כֹ֔פֶר לָנ֖וּס אֶל־עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֑וֹ לָשׁוּב֙ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת בָּאָ֔רֶץ עַד־מ֖וֹת הַכֹּהֵֽן׃
And all of you shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
33 και ου μη φονοκτονησητε την γην εις ην υμεις κατοικειτε το γαρ αιμα τουτο φονοκτονει την γην και ουκ εξιλασθησεται η γη απο του αιματος του εκχυθεντος επ αυτης αλλ επι του αιματος του εκχεοντος
ְלֹֽא־תַחֲנִ֣יפוּ אֶת־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתֶּם֙ בָּ֔הּ כִּ֣י הַדָּ֔ם ה֥וּא יַחֲנִ֖יף אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְלָאָ֣רֶץ לֹֽא־יְכֻפַּ֗ר לַדָּם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שֻׁפַּךְ־בָּ֔הּ כִּי־אִ֖ם בְּדַ֥ם שֹׁפְכֽוֹ׃
So all of you shall not pollute the land wherein all of you are: for blood it defiles the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
34 και ου μιανειτε την γην εφ ης κατοικειτε επ αυτης εφ ης εγω κατασκηνωσω εν υμιν εγω γαρ ειμι κυριος κατασκηνων εν μεσω των υιων ισραηλ
ְלֹ֧א תְטַמֵּ֣א אֶת־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתֶּם֙ יֹשְׁבִ֣ים בָּ֔הּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י שֹׁכֵ֣ן בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה שֹׁכֵ֕ן בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פ
Defile not therefore the land which all of you shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
