Arad Destroyed
και ηκουσεν ο χανανις βασιλευς αραδ ο κατοικων κατα την ερημον ηλθεν γαρ ισραηλ οδον αθαριν και επολεμησεν προς ισραηλ και κατεπρονομευσαν εξ αυτων αιχμαλωσιαν
ַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע הַכְּנַעֲנִ֤י מֶֽלֶךְ־עֲרָד֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב הַנֶּ֔גֶב כִּ֚י בָּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל דֶּ֖רֶךְ הָאֲתָרִ֑ים וַיִּלָּ֙חֶם֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּ֥שְׁבְּ ׀ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ שֶֽׁבִי׃
And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
2 και ηυξατο ισραηλ ευχην κυριω και ειπεν εαν μοι παραδως τον λαον τουτον υποχειριον αναθεματιω αυτον και τας πολεις αυτου
ַיִּדַּ֨ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל נֶ֛דֶר לַֽיהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אִם־נָתֹ֨ן תִּתֵּ֜ן אֶת־הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדִ֔י וְהֽ͏ַחֲרַמְתִּ֖י אֶת־עָרֵיהֶֽם׃
And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
3 και εισηκουσεν κυριος της φωνης ισραηλ και παρεδωκεν τον χανανιν υποχειριον αυτου και ανεθεματισεν αυτον και τας πολεις αυτου και επεκαλεσαν το ονομα του τοπου εκεινου αναθεμα
ַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע יְהוָ֜ה בְּק֣וֹל יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיִּתֵּן֙ אֶת־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י וַיַּחֲרֵ֥ם אֶתְהֶ֖ם וְאֶת־עָרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֥א שֵׁם־הַמָּק֖וֹם חָרְמָֽה׃ פ
And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.

The Bronze Snake
και απαραντες εξ ωρ του ορους οδον επι θαλασσαν ερυθραν περιεκυκλωσαν γην εδωμ και ωλιγοψυχησεν ο λαος εν τη οδω
ַיִּסְע֞וּ מֵהֹ֤ר הָהָר֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יַם־ס֔וּף לִסְבֹ֖ב אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ אֱד֑וֹם וַתִּקְצַ֥ר נֶֽפֶשׁ־הָעָ֖ם בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃
And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5 και κατελαλει ο λαος προς τον θεον και κατα μωυση λεγοντες ινα τι εξηγαγες ημας εξ αιγυπτου αποκτειναι ημας εν τη ερημω οτι ουκ εστιν αρτος ουδε υδωρ η δε ψυχη ημων προσωχθισεν εν τω αρτω τω διακενω
ַיְדַבֵּ֣ר הָעָ֗ם בֵּֽאלֹהִים֮ וּבְמֹשֶׁה֒ לָמָ֤ה הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֙נוּ֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם לָמ֖וּת בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְאֵ֣ין מַ֔יִם וְנַפְשֵׁ֣נוּ קָ֔צָה בַּלֶּ֖חֶם הַקְּלֹקֵֽל׃
And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have all of you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.
6 και απεστειλεν κυριος εις τον λαον τους οφεις τους θανατουντας και εδακνον τον λαον και απεθανεν λαος πολυς των υιων ισραηλ
ַיְשַׁלַּ֨ח יְהוָ֜ה בָּעָ֗ם אֵ֚ת הַנְּחָשִׁ֣ים הַשְּׂרָפִ֔ים וַֽיְנַשְּׁכ֖וּ אֶת־הָעָ֑ם וַיָּ֥מָת עַם־רָ֖ב מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7 και παραγενομενος ο λαος προς μωυσην ελεγον οτι ημαρτομεν οτι κατελαλησαμεν κατα του κυριου και κατα σου ευξαι ουν προς κυριον και αφελετω αφ ημων τον οφιν και ηυξατο μωυσης προς κυριον περι του λαου
ַיָּבֹא֩ הָעָ֨ם אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֜ה וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ חָטָ֗אנוּ כִּֽי־דִבַּ֤רְנוּ בַֽיהוָה֙ וָבָ֔ךְ הִתְפַּלֵּל֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְיָסֵ֥ר מֵעָלֵ֖ינוּ אֶת־הַנָּחָ֑שׁ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד הָעָֽם׃
Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against you; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8 και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην ποιησον σεαυτω οφιν και θες αυτον επι σημειου και εσται εαν δακη οφις ανθρωπον πας ο δεδηγμενος ιδων αυτον ζησεται
ַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙ שָׂרָ֔ף וְשִׂ֥ים אֹת֖וֹ עַל־נֵ֑ס וְהָיָה֙ כָּל־הַנָּשׁ֔וּךְ וְרָאָ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ וָחָֽי׃
And the LORD said unto Moses, Make you a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looks upon it, shall live.
9 και εποιησεν μωυσης οφιν χαλκουν και εστησεν αυτον επι σημειου και εγενετο οταν εδακνεν οφις ανθρωπον και επεβλεψεν επι τον οφιν τον χαλκουν και εζη
ַיַּ֤עַשׂ מֹשֶׁה֙ נְחַ֣שׁ נְחֹ֔שֶׁת וַיְשִׂמֵ֖הוּ עַל־הַנֵּ֑ס וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־נָשַׁ֤ךְ הַנָּחָשׁ֙ אֶת־אִ֔ישׁ וְהִבִּ֛יט אֶל־נְחַ֥שׁ הַנְּחֹ֖שֶׁת וָחָֽי׃
And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

The Journey to Moab
και απηραν οι υιοι ισραηλ και παρενεβαλον εν ωβωθ
ַיִּסְע֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּאֹבֹֽת׃
And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
11 και εξαραντες εξ ωβωθ παρενεβαλον εν αχελγαι εκ του περαν εν τη ερημω η εστιν κατα προσωπον μωαβ κατα ανατολας ηλιου
ַיִּסְע֖וּ מֵאֹבֹ֑ת וַֽיַּחֲנ֞וּ בְּעִיֵּ֣י הָֽעֲבָרִ֗ים בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י מוֹאָ֔ב מִמִּזְרַ֖ח הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃
And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
12 εκειθεν απηραν και παρενεβαλον εις φαραγγα ζαρετ
ִשָּׁ֖ם נָסָ֑עוּ וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּנַ֥חַל זָֽרֶד׃
From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
13 και εκειθεν απαραντες παρενεβαλον εις το περαν αρνων εν τη ερημω το εξεχον απο των οριων των αμορραιων εστιν γαρ αρνων ορια μωαβ ανα μεσον μωαβ και ανα μεσον του αμορραιου
ִשָּׁם֮ נָסָעוּ֒ וַֽיַּחֲנ֗וּ מֵעֵ֤בֶר אַרְנוֹן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר הַיֹּצֵ֖א מִגְּב֣וּל הָֽאֱמֹרִ֑י כִּ֤י אַרְנוֹן֙ גְּב֣וּל מוֹאָ֔ב בֵּ֥ין מוֹאָ֖ב וּבֵ֥ין הָאֱמֹרִֽי׃
From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14 δια τουτο λεγεται εν βιβλιω πολεμος του κυριου την ζωοβ εφλογισεν και τους χειμαρρους αρνων
ַל־כֵּן֙ יֵֽאָמַ֔ר בְּסֵ֖פֶר מִלְחֲמֹ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה אֶת־וָהֵ֣ב בְּסוּפָ֔ה וְאֶת־הַנְּחָלִ֖ים אַרְנֽוֹן׃
Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
15 και τους χειμαρρους κατεστησεν κατοικισαι ηρ και προσκειται τοις οριοις μωαβ
ְאֶ֙שֶׁד֙ הַנְּחָלִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָטָ֖ה לְשֶׁ֣בֶת עָ֑ר וְנִשְׁעַ֖ן לִגְב֥וּל מוֹאָֽב׃
And at the stream of the brooks that goes down to the dwelling of Ar, and lies upon the border of Moab.
16 και εκειθεν το φρεαρ τουτο εστιν το φρεαρ ο ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην συναγαγε τον λαον και δωσω αυτοις υδωρ πιειν
ּמִשָּׁ֖ם בְּאֵ֑רָה הִ֣וא הַבְּאֵ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ לְמֹשֶׁ֔ה אֱסֹף֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וְאֶתְּנָ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם מָֽיִם׃ ס
And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spoke unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17 τοτε ησεν ισραηλ το ασμα τουτο επι του φρεατος εξαρχετε αυτω
ָ֚ז יָשִׁ֣יר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־הַשִּׁירָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את עֲלִ֥י בְאֵ֖ר עֱנוּ־לָֽהּ׃
Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing all of you unto it:
18 φρεαρ ωρυξαν αυτο αρχοντες εξελατομησαν αυτο βασιλεις εθνων εν τη βασιλεια αυτων εν τω κυριευσαι αυτων και απο φρεατος εις μανθαναιν
ְּאֵ֞ר חֲפָר֣וּהָ שָׂרִ֗ים כָּר֙וּהָ֙ נְדִיבֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם בִּמְחֹקֵ֖ק בְּמִשְׁעֲנֹתָ֑ם וּמִמִּדְבָּ֖ר מַתָּנָֽה׃
The princes dug the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
19 και απο μανθαναιν εις νααλιηλ και απο νααλιηλ εις βαμωθ
ּמִמַּתָּנָ֖ה נַחֲלִיאֵ֑ל וּמִנַּחֲלִיאֵ֖ל בָּמֽוֹת׃
And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
20 και απο βαμωθ εις ναπην η εστιν εν τω πεδιω μωαβ απο κορυφης του λελαξευμενου το βλεπον κατα προσωπον της ερημου
ּמִבָּמ֗וֹת הַגַּיְא֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ בִּשְׂדֵ֣ה מוֹאָ֔ב רֹ֖אשׁ הַפִּסְגָּ֑ה וְנִשְׁקָ֖פָה עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַיְשִׁימֹֽן׃ פ
And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward Jeshimon.

Defeat of Sihon and Og
και απεστειλεν μωυσης πρεσβεις προς σηων βασιλεα αμορραιων λογοις ειρηνικοις λεγων
ַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל־סִיחֹ֥ן מֶֽלֶךְ־הָאֱמֹרִ֖י לֵאמֹֽר׃
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22 παρελευσομεθα δια της γης σου τη οδω πορευσομεθα ουκ εκκλινουμεν ουτε εις αγρον ουτε εις αμπελωνα ου πιομεθα υδωρ εκ φρεατος σου οδω βασιλικη πορευσομεθα εως παρελθωμεν τα ορια σου
ֶעְבְּרָ֣ה בְאַרְצֶ֗ךָ לֹ֤א נִטֶּה֙ בְּשָׂדֶ֣ה וּבְכֶ֔רֶם לֹ֥א נִשְׁתֶּ֖ה מֵ֣י בְאֵ֑ר בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ נֵלֵ֔ךְ עַ֥ד אֲשֶֽׁר־נַעֲבֹ֖ר גְּבֻלֶֽךָ׃
Let me pass through your land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past your borders.
23 και ουκ εδωκεν σηων τω ισραηλ παρελθειν δια των οριων αυτου και συνηγαγεν σηων παντα τον λαον αυτου και εξηλθεν παραταξασθαι τω ισραηλ εις την ερημον και ηλθεν εις ιασσα και παρεταξατο τω ισραηλ
ְלֹא־נָתַ֨ן סִיחֹ֣ן אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ עֲבֹ֣ר בִּגְבֻלוֹ֒ וַיֶּאֱסֹ֨ף סִיחֹ֜ן אֶת־כָּל־עַמּ֗וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֞א לִקְרַ֤את יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַמִּדְבָּ֔רָה וַיָּבֹ֖א יָ֑הְצָה וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24 και επαταξεν αυτον ισραηλ φονω μαχαιρης και κατεκυριευσαν της γης αυτου απο αρνων εως ιαβοκ εως υιων αμμαν οτι ιαζηρ ορια υιων αμμων εστιν
ַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב וַיִּירַ֨שׁ אֶת־אַרְצ֜וֹ מֵֽאַרְנֹ֗ן עַד־יַבֹּק֙ עַד־בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן כִּ֣י עַ֔ז גְּב֖וּל בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃
And Israel stroke him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
25 και ελαβεν ισραηλ πασας τας πολεις ταυτας και κατωκησεν ισραηλ εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν των αμορραιων εν εσεβων και εν πασαις ταις συγκυρουσαις αυτη
ַיִּקַּח֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵ֥ת כָּל־הֶעָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּכָל־עָרֵ֣י הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י בְּחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וּבְכָל־בְּנֹתֶֽיהָ׃
And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
26 εστιν γαρ εσεβων πολις σηων του βασιλεως των αμορραιων και ουτος επολεμησεν βασιλεα μωαβ το προτερον και ελαβον πασαν την γην αυτου απο αροηρ εως αρνων
ִּ֣י חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן עִ֗יר סִיחֹ֛ן מֶ֥לֶךְ הָאֱמֹרִ֖י הִ֑וא וְה֣וּא נִלְחַ֗ם בְּמֶ֤לֶךְ מוֹאָב֙ הָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹן וַיִּקַּ֧ח אֶת־כָּל־אַרְצ֛וֹ מִיָּד֖וֹ עַד־אַרְנֹֽן׃
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27 δια τουτο ερουσιν οι αινιγματισται ελθετε εις εσεβων ινα οικοδομηθη και κατασκευασθη πολις σηων
ַל־כֵּ֛ן יֹאמְר֥וּ הַמֹּשְׁלִ֖ים בֹּ֣אוּ חֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן תִּבָּנֶ֥ה וְתִכּוֹנֵ֖ן עִ֥יר סִיחֽוֹן׃
Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
28 οτι πυρ εξηλθεν εξ εσεβων φλοξ εκ πολεως σηων και κατεφαγεν εως μωαβ και κατεπιεν στηλας αρνων
ִּי־אֵשׁ֙ יָֽצְאָ֣ה מֵֽחֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן לֶהָבָ֖ה מִקִּרְיַ֣ת סִיחֹ֑ן אָֽכְלָה֙ עָ֣ר מוֹאָ֔ב בַּעֲלֵ֖י בָּמ֥וֹת אַרְנֹֽן׃
For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
29 ουαι σοι μωαβ απωλου λαος χαμως απεδοθησαν οι υιοι αυτων διασωζεσθαι και αι θυγατερες αυτων αιχμαλωτοι τω βασιλει των αμορραιων σηων
וֹי־לְךָ֣ מוֹאָ֔ב אָבַ֖דְתָּ עַם־כְּמ֑וֹשׁ נָתַ֨ן בָּנָ֤יו פְּלֵיטִם֙ וּבְנֹתָ֣יו בַּשְּׁבִ֔ית לְמֶ֥לֶךְ אֱמֹרִ֖י סִיחֽוֹן׃
Woe to you, Moab! you are undone, O people of Chemosh: he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
30 και το σπερμα αυτων απολειται εσεβων εως δαιβων και αι γυναικες ετι προσεξεκαυσαν πυρ επι μωαβ
ַנִּירָ֛ם אָבַ֥ד חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן עַד־דִּיב֑וֹן וַנַּשִּׁ֣ים עַד־נֹ֔פַח אֲשֶׁ֖רׄ‪[4]‬ עַד־מֵֽידְבָֽא׃
We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reachs unto Medeba.
31 κατωκησεν δε ισραηλ εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν των αμορραιων
ַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּאֶ֖רֶץ הָאֱמֹרִֽי׃
Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32 και απεστειλεν μωυσης κατασκεψασθαι την ιαζηρ και κατελαβοντο αυτην και τας κωμας αυτης και εξεβαλον τον αμορραιον τον κατοικουντα εκει
ַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח מֹשֶׁה֙ לְרַגֵּ֣ל אֶת־יַעְזֵ֔ר וַֽיִּלְכְּד֖וּ בְּנֹתֶ֑יהָ *ויירש **וַיּ֖וֹרֶשׁ אֶת־הָאֱמֹרִ֥י אֲשֶׁר־שָֽׁם׃
And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
33 και επιστρεψαντες ανεβησαν οδον την εις βασαν και εξηλθεν ωγ βασιλευς της βασαν εις συναντησιν αυτοις και πας ο λαος αυτου εις πολεμον εις εδραιν
ַיִּפְנוּ֙ וַֽיַּעֲל֔וּ דֶּ֖רֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן וַיֵּצֵ֣א עוֹג֩ מֶֽלֶךְ־הַבָּשָׁ֨ן לִקְרָאתָ֜ם ה֧וּא וְכָל־עַמּ֛וֹ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אֶדְרֶֽעִי׃
And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34 και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην μη φοβηθης αυτον οτι εις τας χειρας σου παραδεδωκα αυτον και παντα τον λαον αυτου και πασαν την γην αυτου και ποιησεις αυτω καθως εποιησας τω σηων βασιλει των αμορραιων ος κατωκει εν εσεβων
ַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ אַל־תִּירָ֣א אֹת֔וֹ כִּ֣י בְיָדְךָ֞ נָתַ֧תִּי אֹת֛וֹ וְאֶת־כָּל־עַמּ֖וֹ וְאֶת־אַרְצ֑וֹ וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ לּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֗יתָ לְסִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּחֶשְׁבּֽוֹן׃
And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35 και επαταξεν αυτον και τους υιους αυτου και παντα τον λαον αυτου εως του μη καταλιπειν αυτου ζωγρειαν και εκληρονομησαν την γην αυτων
ַיַּכּ֨וּ אֹת֤וֹ וְאֶת־בָּנָיו֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־עַמּ֔וֹ עַד־בִּלְתִּ֥י הִשְׁאִֽיר־ל֖וֹ שָׂרִ֑יד וַיִּֽירְשׁ֖וּ אֶת־אַרְצֽוֹ׃
So they stroke him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
