| 1 | The Birth of Samsonκαι προσεθεντο οι υιοι ισραηλ ποιησαι το πονηρον εναντιον κυριου και παρεδωκεν αυτους κυριος εν χειρι αλλοφυλων τεσσαρακοντα ετηַיֹּסִ֙פוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּתְּנֵ֧ם יְהוָ֛ה בְּיַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה׃ פ And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. |

| 2 | και εγενετο ανηρ εκ σαραα εκ της φυλης του δαν και ονομα αυτω μανωε και η γυνη αυτου στειρα και ουκ ετικτεν ַיְהִי֩ אִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֧ד מִצָּרְעָ֛ה מִמִּשְׁפַּ֥חַת הַדָּנִ֖י וּשְׁמ֣וֹ מָנ֑וֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּ֥וֹ עֲקָרָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א יָלָֽדָה׃ And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. |
| 3 | και ωφθη αγγελος κυριου προς την γυναικα και ειπεν προς αυτην ιδου δη συ στειρα και ου τετοκας και εν γαστρι εξεις και τεξη υιον ַיֵּרָ֥א מַלְאַךְ־יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־הָאִשָּׁ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֗יהָ הִנֵּה־נָ֤א אַתְּ־עֲקָרָה֙ וְלֹ֣א יָלַ֔דְתְּ וְהָרִ֖ית וְיָלַ֥דְתְּ בֵּֽן׃ And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, you are barren, and bear not: but you shall conceive, and bear a son. |
| 4 | και νυν φυλαξαι και μη πιης οινον και σικερα και μη φαγης παν ακαθαρτον ְעַתָּה֙ הִשָּׁ֣מְרִי נָ֔א וְאַל־תִּשְׁתִּ֖י יַ֣יִן וְשֵׁכָ֑ר וְאַל־תֹּאכְלִ֖י כָּל־טָמֵֽא׃ Now therefore beware, I pray you, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: |
| 5 | οτι ιδου συ εν γαστρι εξεις και τεξη υιον και ουκ αναβησεται σιδηρος επι την κεφαλην αυτου οτι ηγιασμενον ναζιραιον εσται τω θεω το παιδαριον εκ της γαστρος και αυτος αρξεται σωζειν τον ισραηλ εκ χειρος αλλοφυλων ִּי֩ הִנָּ֨ךְ הָרָ֜ה וְיֹלַ֣דְתְּ בֵּ֗ן וּמוֹרָה֙ לֹא־יַעֲלֶ֣ה עַל־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ כִּֽי־נְזִ֧יר אֱלֹהִ֛ים יִהְיֶ֥ה הַנַּ֖עַר מִן־הַבָּ֑טֶן וְה֗וּא יָחֵ֛ל לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִיַּ֥ד פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ For, lo, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. |
| 6 | και ηλθεν η γυνη και ειπεν τω ανδρι αυτης λεγουσα οτι ανθρωπος του θεου ηλθεν προς με και η ορασις αυτου ως ορασις αγγελου του θεου επιφανης σφοδρα και ηρωτων ποθεν εστιν και το ονομα αυτου ουκ απηγγειλεν μοι ַתָּבֹ֣א הָאִשָּׁ֗ה וַתֹּ֣אמֶר לְאִישָׁהּ֮ לֵאמֹר֒ אִ֤ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י וּמַרְאֵ֕הוּ כְּמַרְאֵ֛ה מַלְאַ֥ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים נוֹרָ֣א מְאֹ֑ד וְלֹ֤א שְׁאִלְתִּ֙יהוּ֙ אֵֽי־מִזֶּ֣ה ה֔וּא וְאֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ לֹֽא־הִגִּ֥יד לִֽי׃ Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: |
| 7 | και ειπεν μοι ιδου συ εν γαστρι εξεις και τεξη υιον και νυν μη πιης οινον και σικερα και μη φαγης πασαν ακαθαρσιαν οτι ναζιραιον θεου εσται το παιδαριον απο της γαστρος εως ημερας θανατου αυτου ַיֹּ֣אמֶר לִ֔י הִנָּ֥ךְ הָרָ֖ה וְיֹלַ֣דְתְּ בֵּ֑ן וְעַתָּ֞ה אַל־תִּשְׁתִּ֣י ׀ יַ֣יִן וְשֵׁכָ֗ר וְאַל־תֹּֽאכְלִי֙ כָּל־טֻמְאָ֔ה כִּֽי־נְזִ֤יר אֱלֹהִים֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה הַנַּ֔עַר מִן־הַבֶּ֖טֶן עַד־י֥וֹם מוֹתֽוֹ׃ פ But he said unto me, Behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. |
| 8 | και εδεηθη μανωε του κυριου και ειπεν εν εμοι κυριε ανθρωπος του θεου ον απεστειλας προς ημας ελθετω δη προς ημας και φωτισατω ημας τι ποιησωμεν τω παιδαριω τω τικτομενω ַיֶּעְתַּ֥ר מָנ֛וֹחַ אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר בִּ֣י אֲדוֹנָ֔י אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֞ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁלַ֗חְתָּ יָבוֹא־נָ֥א עוֹד֙ אֵלֵ֔ינוּ וְיוֹרֵ֕נוּ מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה לַנַּ֥עַר הַיּוּלָּֽד׃ Then Manoah implored the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which you did send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. |
| 9 | και επηκουσεν ο θεος της φωνης μανωε και παρεγενετο ο αγγελος του θεου ετι προς την γυναικα αυτης καθημενης εν τω αγρω και μανωε ο ανηρ αυτης ουκ ην μετ αυτης ַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים בְּק֣וֹל מָנ֑וֹחַ וַיָּבֹ֣א מַלְאַךְ֩ הָאֱלֹהִ֨ים ע֜וֹד אֶל־הָאִשָּׁ֗ה וְהִיא֙ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה וּמָנ֥וֹחַ אִישָׁ֖הּ אֵ֥ין עִמָּֽהּ׃ And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her. |
| 10 | και εταχυνεν η γυνη και εξεδραμεν και απηγγειλεν τω ανδρι αυτης και ειπεν προς αυτον ιδου ωπται μοι ο ανηρ ο ελθων προς με τη ημερα εκεινη ַתְּמַהֵר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה וַתָּ֖רָץ וַתַּגֵּ֣ד לְאִישָׁ֑הּ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו הִנֵּ֨ה נִרְאָ֤ה אֵלַי֙ הָאִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֥א בַיּ֖וֹם אֵלָֽי׃ And the woman made haste, and ran, and showed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man has appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day. |
| 11 | και ανεστη μανωε και επορευθη οπισω της γυναικος αυτου προς τον ανδρα και ειπεν αυτω ει συ ει ο ανηρ ο λαλησας προς την γυναικα και ειπεν ο αγγελος εγω ַיָּ֛קָם וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ מָנ֖וֹחַ אַחֲרֵ֣י אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־הָאִ֔ישׁ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הַאַתָּ֥ה הָאִ֛ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֥רְתָּ אֶל־הָאִשָּׁ֖ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אָֽנִי׃ And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Are you the man that spoke unto the woman? And he said, I am. |
| 12 | και ειπεν μανωε νυν δη ελθοντος του ρηματος σου τι εσται το κριμα του παιδαριου και τα εργα αυτου ַיֹּ֣אמֶר מָנ֔וֹחַ עַתָּ֖ה יָבֹ֣א דְבָרֶ֑יךָ מַה־יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה מִשְׁפַּט־הַנַּ֖עַר וּמַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃ And Manoah said, Now let your words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him? |
| 13 | και ειπεν ο αγγελος κυριου προς μανωε απο παντων ων ειπα προς την γυναικα φυλαξασθω ַיֹּ֛אמֶר מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מָנ֑וֹחַ מִכֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־אָמַ֥רְתִּי אֶל־הָאִשָּׁ֖ה תִּשָּׁמֵֽר׃ And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. |
| 14 | απο παντων οσα εκπορευεται εξ αμπελου ου φαγεται και οινον και σικερα μη πιετω και παν ακαθαρτον μη φαγετω παντα οσα ενετειλαμην αυτη φυλαξασθω ִכֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־יֵצֵא֩ מִגֶּ֨פֶן הַיַּ֜יִן לֹ֣א תֹאכַ֗ל וְיַ֤יִן וְשֵׁכָר֙ אַל־תֵּ֔שְׁתְּ וְכָל־טֻמְאָ֖ה אַל־תֹּאכַ֑ל כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוִּיתִ֖יהָ תִּשְׁמֹֽר׃ She may not eat of any thing that comes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe. |
| 15 | και ειπεν μανωε προς τον αγγελον κυριου βιασωμεθα δη σε και ποιησομεν ενωπιον σου εριφον αιγων ַיֹּ֥אמֶר מָנ֖וֹחַ אֶל־מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֑ה נַעְצְרָה־נָּ֣א אוֹתָ֔ךְ וְנַעֲשֶׂ֥ה לְפָנֶ֖יךָ גְּדִ֥י עִזִּֽים׃ And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray you, let us detain you, until we shall have made ready a kid for you. |
| 16 | και ειπεν ο αγγελος κυριου προς μανωε εαν βιαση με ου φαγομαι των αρτων σου και εαν ποιησης ολοκαυτωμα κυριω ανοισεις αυτο οτι ουκ εγνω μανωε οτι αγγελος κυριου εστιν ַיֹּאמֶר֩ מַלְאַ֨ךְ יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מָנ֗וֹחַ אִם־תַּעְצְרֵ֙נִי֙ לֹא־אֹכַ֣ל בְּלַחְמֶ֔ךָ וְאִם־תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה עֹלָ֔ה לַיהוָ֖ה תַּעֲלֶ֑נָּה כִּ֚י לֹא־יָדַ֣ע מָנ֔וֹחַ כִּֽי־מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃ And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though you detain me, I will not eat of your bread: and if you will offer a burnt offering, you must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD. |
| 17 | και ειπεν μανωε προς τον αγγελον κυριου τι ονομα σοι ινα οταν ελθη το ρημα σου δοξασωμεν σε ַיֹּ֧אמֶר מָנ֛וֹחַ אֶל־מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָ֖ה מִ֣י שְׁמֶ֑ךָ כִּֽי־יָבֹ֥א *דבריך **דְבָרְךָ֖ וְכִבַּדְנֽוּךָ׃ And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is your name, that when your sayings come to pass we may do you honour? |
| 18 | και ειπεν αυτω ο αγγελος κυριου ινα τι τουτο ερωτας το ονομα μου και αυτο εστιν θαυμαστον ַיֹּ֤אמֶר לּוֹ֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה לָ֥מָּה זֶּ֖ה תִּשְׁאַ֣ל לִשְׁמִ֑י וְהוּא־פֶ֛לִאי׃ ס And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why ask you thus after my name, seeing it is secret? |
| 19 | και ελαβεν μανωε τον εριφον των αιγων και την θυσιαν και ανηνεγκεν επι την πετραν τω κυριω τω θαυμαστα ποιουντι κυριω και μανωε και η γυνη αυτου εθεωρουν ַיִּקַּ֨ח מָנ֜וֹחַ אֶת־גְּדִ֤י הָעִזִּים֙ וְאֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֔ה וַיַּ֥עַל עַל־הַצּ֖וּר לַֽיהוָ֑ה וּמַפְלִ֣א לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת וּמָנ֥וֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ רֹאִֽים׃ So Manoah took a kid with a food offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. |
| 20 | και εγενετο εν τω αναβηναι την φλογα επανωθεν του θυσιαστηριου εις τον ουρανον και ανεβη ο αγγελος κυριου εν τη φλογι και μανωε και η γυνη αυτου εθεωρουν και επεσον επι προσωπον αυτων επι την γην ַיְהִי֩ בַעֲל֨וֹת הַלַּ֜הַב מֵעַ֤ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה וַיַּ֥עַל מַלְאַךְ־יְהוָ֖ה בְּלַ֣הַב הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וּמָנ֤וֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ֙ רֹאִ֔ים וַיִּפְּל֥וּ עַל־פְּנֵיהֶ֖ם אָֽרְצָה׃ For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. |
| 21 | και ου προσεθηκεν ετι ο αγγελος κυριου οφθηναι προς μανωε και προς την γυναικα αυτου τοτε εγνω μανωε οτι αγγελος κυριου εστιν ְלֹא־יָ֤סַף עוֹד֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה לְהֵרָאֹ֖ה אֶל־מָנ֣וֹחַ וְאֶל־אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ אָ֚ז יָדַ֣ע מָנ֔וֹחַ כִּֽי־מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃ But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. |
| 22 | και ειπεν μανωε προς την γυναικα αυτου θανατω αποθανουμεθα οτι θεον εωρακαμεν ַיֹּ֧אמֶר מָנ֛וֹחַ אֶל־אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ מ֣וֹת נָמ֑וּת כִּ֥י אֱלֹהִ֖ים רָאִֽינוּ׃ And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. |
| 23 | και ειπεν αυτω η γυνη αυτου ει εβουλετο κυριος θανατωσαι ημας ουκ αν εδεξατο εκ των χειρων ημων ολοκαυτωμα και θυσιαν και ουκ αν εφωτισεν ημας παντα ταυτα και ουκ αν ακουστα εποιησεν ημιν ταυτα ַתֹּ֧אמֶר ל֣וֹ אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ לוּ֩ חָפֵ֨ץ יְהוָ֤ה לַהֲמִיתֵ֙נוּ֙ לֹֽא־לָקַ֤ח מִיָּדֵ֙נוּ֙ עֹלָ֣ה וּמִנְחָ֔ה וְלֹ֥א הֶרְאָ֖נוּ אֶת־כָּל־אֵ֑לֶּה וְכָעֵ֕ת לֹ֥א הִשְׁמִיעָ֖נוּ כָּזֹֽאת׃ But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a food offering at our hands, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these. |
| 24 | και ετεκεν η γυνη υιον και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου σαμψων και ηυλογησεν αυτον κυριος και ηυξηθη το παιδαριον ַתֵּ֤לֶד הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ בֵּ֔ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ שִׁמְשׁ֑וֹן וַיִּגְדַּ֣ל הַנַּ֔עַר וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃ And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him. |
| 25 | και ηρξατο πνευμα κυριου συμπορευεσθαι αυτω εν παρεμβολη δαν ανα μεσον σαραα και ανα μεσον εσθαολ ַתָּ֙חֶל֙ ר֣וּחַ יְהוָ֔ה לְפַעֲמ֖וֹ בְּמַחֲנֵה־דָ֑ן בֵּ֥ין צָרְעָ֖ה וּבֵ֥ין אֶשְׁתָּאֹֽל׃ פ And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol. |
