| 1 | God and Idolsακουσατε τον λογον κυριου ον ελαλησεν εφ υμας οικος ισραηλִׁמְע֣וּ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Hear all of you the word which the LORD speaks unto you, O house of Israel: |

| 2 | ταδε λεγει κυριος κατα τας οδους των εθνων μη μανθανετε και απο των σημειων του ουρανου μη φοβεισθε οτι φοβουνται αυτα τοις προσωποις αυτων ֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אֶל־דֶּ֤רֶךְ הַגּוֹיִם֙ אַל־תִּלְמָ֔דוּ וּמֵאֹת֥וֹת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם אַל־תֵּחָ֑תּוּ כִּֽי־יֵחַ֥תּוּ הַגּוֹיִ֖ם מֵהֵֽמָּה׃ Thus says the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. |
| 3 | οτι τα νομιμα των εθνων ματαια ξυλον εστιν εκ του δρυμου εκκεκομμενον εργον τεκτονος και χωνευμα ִּֽי־חֻקּ֥וֹת הָֽעַמִּ֖ים הֶ֣בֶל ה֑וּא כִּֽי־עֵץ֙ מִיַּ֣עַר כְּרָת֔וֹ מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יְדֵ֥י־חָרָ֖שׁ בַּֽמַּעֲצָֽד׃ For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. |
| 4 | αργυριω και χρυσιω κεκαλλωπισμενα εστιν εν σφυραις και ηλοις εστερεωσαν αυτα και ου κινηθησονται ְּכֶ֥סֶף וּבְזָהָ֖ב יְיַפֵּ֑הוּ בְּמַסְמְר֧וֹת וּבְמַקָּב֛וֹת יְחַזְּק֖וּם וְל֥וֹא יָפִֽיק׃ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. |
| 5 | αιρομενα αρθησονται οτι ουκ επιβησονται μη φοβηθητε αυτα οτι ου μη κακοποιησωσιν και αγαθον ουκ εστιν εν αυτοις ְּתֹ֨מֶר מִקְשָׁ֥ה הֵ֙מָּה֙ וְלֹ֣א יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ נָשׂ֥וֹא יִנָּשׂ֖וּא כִּ֣י לֹ֣א יִצְעָ֑דוּ אַל־תִּֽירְא֤וּ מֵהֶם֙ כִּי־לֹ֣א יָרֵ֔עוּ וְגַם־הֵיטֵ֖יב אֵ֥ין אוֹתָֽם׃ ס They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must essentially be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. |
| 6 | ֵאֵ֥ין כָּמ֖וֹךָ יְהוָ֑ה גָּד֥וֹל אַתָּ֛ה וְגָד֥וֹל שִׁמְךָ֖ בִּגְבוּרָֽה׃ Forasmuch as there is none like unto you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might. |
| 7 | ִ֣י לֹ֤א יִֽרָאֲךָ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם כִּ֥י לְךָ֖ יָאָ֑תָה כִּ֣י בְכָל־חַכְמֵ֧י הַגּוֹיִ֛ם וּבְכָל־מַלְכוּתָ֖ם מֵאֵ֥ין כָּמֽוֹךָ׃ Who would not fear you, O King of nations? in order to you does it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto you. |
| 8 | ּבְאַחַ֖ת יִבְעֲר֣וּ וְיִכְסָ֑לוּ מוּסַ֥ר הֲבָלִ֖ים עֵ֥ץ הֽוּא׃ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities. |
| 9 | αργυριον τορευτον εστιν ου πορευσονται αργυριον προσβλητον απο θαρσις ηξει χρυσιον μωφαζ και χειρ χρυσοχοων εργα τεχνιτων παντα υακινθον και πορφυραν ενδυσουσιν αυτα ֶּ֣סֶף מְרֻקָּ֞ע מִתַּרְשִׁ֣ישׁ יוּבָ֗א וְזָהָב֙ מֵֽאוּפָ֔ז מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה חָרָ֖שׁ וִידֵ֣י צוֹרֵ֑ף תְּכֵ֤לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן֙ לְבוּשָׁ֔ם מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה חֲכָמִ֖ים כֻּלָּֽם׃ Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men. |
| 10 | ַֽיהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ אֱמֶ֔ת הֽוּא־אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּ֖ים וּמֶ֣לֶךְ עוֹלָ֑ם מִקִּצְפּוֹ֙ תִּרְעַ֣שׁ הָאָ֔רֶץ וְלֹֽא־יָכִ֥לוּ גוֹיִ֖ם זַעְמֽוֹ׃ ס But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. |
| 11 | ουτως ερειτε αυτοις θεοι οι τον ουρανον και την γην ουκ εποιησαν απολεσθωσαν απο της γης και υποκατωθεν του ουρανου τουτου ִּדְנָה֙ תֵּאמְר֣וּן לְה֔וֹם אֱלָ֣הַיָּ֔א דִּֽי־שְׁמַיָּ֥א וְאַרְקָ֖א לָ֣א עֲבַ֑דוּ יֵאבַ֧דוּ מֵֽאַרְעָ֛א וּמִן־תְּח֥וֹת שְׁמַיָּ֖א אֵֽלֶּה׃ ס Thus shall all of you say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens. |
| 12 | κυριος ο ποιησας την γην εν τη ισχυι αυτου ο ανορθωσας την οικουμενην εν τη σοφια αυτου και τη φρονησει αυτου εξετεινεν τον ουρανον ֹשֵׂ֥ה אֶ֙רֶץ֙ בְּכֹח֔וֹ מֵכִ֥ין תֵּבֵ֖ל בְּחָכְמָת֑וֹ וּבִתְבוּנָת֖וֹ נָטָ֥ה שָׁמָֽיִם׃ He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by his discretion. |
| 13 | και πληθος υδατος εν ουρανω και ανηγαγεν νεφελας εξ εσχατου της γης αστραπας εις υετον εποιησεν και εξηγαγεν φως εκ θησαυρων αυτου ְק֨וֹל תִּתּ֜וֹ הֲמ֥וֹן מַ֙יִם֙ בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיַּעֲלֶ֥ה נְשִׂאִ֖ים מִקְצֵ֣ה *ארץ **הָאָ֑רֶץ בְּרָקִ֤ים לַמָּטָר֙ עָשָׂ֔ה וַיּ֥וֹצֵא ר֖וּחַ מֵאֹצְרֹתָֽיו׃ When he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures. |
| 14 | εμωρανθη πας ανθρωπος απο γνωσεως κατησχυνθη πας χρυσοχοος επι τοις γλυπτοις αυτου οτι ψευδη εχωνευσαν ουκ εστιν πνευμα εν αυτοις ִבְעַ֤ר כָּל־אָדָם֙ מִדַּ֔עַת הֹבִ֥ישׁ כָּל־צוֹרֵ֖ף מִפָּ֑סֶל כִּ֛י שֶׁ֥קֶר נִסְכּ֖וֹ וְלֹא־ר֥וּחַ בָּֽם׃ Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. |
| 15 | ματαια εστιν εργα εμπεπαιγμενα εν καιρω επισκοπης αυτων απολουνται ֶ֣בֶל הֵ֔מָּה מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה תַּעְתֻּעִ֑ים בְּעֵ֥ת פְּקֻדָּתָ֖ם יֹאבֵֽדוּ׃ They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. |
| 16 | ουκ εστιν τοιαυτη μερις τω ιακωβ οτι ο πλασας τα παντα αυτος κληρονομια αυτου κυριος ονομα αυτω ֹֽא־כְאֵ֜לֶּה חֵ֣לֶק יַעֲקֹ֗ב כִּֽי־יוֹצֵ֤ר הַכֹּל֙ ה֔וּא וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל שֵׁ֖בֶט נַֽחֲלָת֑וֹ יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁמֽוֹ׃ ס The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name. |
| 17 | Coming Destructionσυνηγαγεν εξωθεν την υποστασιν σου κατοικουσα εν εκλεκτοιςִסְפִּ֥י מֵאֶ֖רֶץ כִּנְעָתֵ֑ךְ *ישבתי **יֹשֶׁ֖בֶת בַּמָּצֽוֹר׃ ס Gather up your wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress. |
| 18 | οτι ταδε λεγει κυριος ιδου εγω σκελιζω τους κατοικουντας την γην ταυτην εν θλιψει οπως ευρεθη η πληγη σου ִּֽי־כֹה֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנְנִ֥י קוֹלֵ֛עַ אֶת־יוֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ בַּפַּ֣עַם הַזֹּ֑את וַהֲצֵר֥וֹתִי לָהֶ֖ם לְמַ֥עַן יִמְצָֽאוּ׃ ס For thus says the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so. |
| 19 | ουαι επι συντριμματι σου αλγηρα η πληγη σου καγω ειπα οντως τουτο το τραυμα μου και κατελαβεν με ֥וֹי לִי֙ עַל־שִׁבְרִ֔י נַחְלָ֖ה מַכָּתִ֑י וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי אַ֛ךְ זֶ֥ה חֳלִ֖י וְאֶשָּׂאֶֽנּוּ׃ Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it. |
| 20 | η σκηνη μου εταλαιπωρησεν ωλετο και πασαι αι δερρεις μου διεσπασθησαν οι υιοι μου και τα προβατα μου ουκ εισιν ουκ εστιν ετι τοπος της σκηνης μου τοπος των δερρεων μου ָהֳלִ֣י שֻׁדָּ֔ד וְכָל־מֵיתָרַ֖י נִתָּ֑קוּ בָּנַ֤י יְצָאֻ֙נִי֙ וְאֵינָ֔ם אֵין־נֹטֶ֥ה עוֹד֙ אָהֳלִ֔י וּמֵקִ֖ים יְרִיעוֹתָֽי׃ My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone out of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains. |
| 21 | οτι οι ποιμενες ηφρονευσαντο και τον κυριον ουκ εξεζητησαν δια τουτο ουκ ενοησεν πασα η νομη και διεσκορπισθησαν ִּ֤י נִבְעֲרוּ֙ הָֽרֹעִ֔ים וְאֶת־יְהוָ֖ה לֹ֣א דָרָ֑שׁוּ עַל־כֵּן֙ לֹ֣א הִשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ וְכָל־מַרְעִיתָ֖ם נָפֽוֹצָה׃ ס For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered. |
| 22 | φωνη ακοης ιδου ερχεται και σεισμος μεγας εκ γης βορρα του ταξαι τας πολεις ιουδα εις αφανισμον και κοιτην στρουθων ֤וֹל שְׁמוּעָה֙ הִנֵּ֣ה בָאָ֔ה וְרַ֥עַשׁ גָּד֖וֹל מֵאֶ֣רֶץ צָפ֑וֹן לָשׂ֞וּם אֶת־עָרֵ֧י יְהוּדָ֛ה שְׁמָמָ֖ה מְע֥וֹן תַּנִּֽים׃ ס Behold, the noise of the bruit has come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons. |
| 23 | Jeremiah’s Prayerοιδα κυριε οτι ουχι του ανθρωπου η οδος αυτου ουδε ανηρ πορευσεται και κατορθωσει πορειαν αυτουָדַ֣עְתִּי יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֛י לֹ֥א לָאָדָ֖ם דַּרְכּ֑וֹ לֹֽא־לְאִ֣ישׁ הֹלֵ֔ךְ וְהָכִ֖ין אֶֽת־צַעֲדֽוֹ׃ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps. |
| 24 | παιδευσον ημας κυριε πλην εν κρισει και μη εν θυμω ινα μη ολιγους ημας ποιησης ַסְּרֵ֥נִי יְהוָ֖ה אַךְ־בְּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט אַל־בְּאַפְּךָ֖ פֶּן־תַּמְעִטֵֽנִי׃ O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in yours anger, lest you bring me to nothing. |
| 25 | εκχεον τον θυμον σου επι εθνη τα μη ειδοτα σε και επι γενεας αι το ονομα σου ουκ επεκαλεσαντο οτι κατεφαγον τον ιακωβ και εξανηλωσαν αυτον και την νομην αυτου ηρημωσαν ְׁפֹ֣ךְ חֲמָתְךָ֗ עַל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־יְדָע֔וּךָ וְעַל֙ מִשְׁפָּח֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּשִׁמְךָ֖ לֹ֣א קָרָ֑אוּ כִּֽי־אָכְל֣וּ אֶֽת־יַעֲקֹ֗ב וַאֲכָלֻ֙הוּ֙ וַיְכַלֻּ֔הוּ וְאֶת־נָוֵ֖הוּ הֵשַֽׁמּוּ׃ פ Pour out your fury upon the heathen that know you not, and upon the families that call not on your name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate. |
