A Prophecy About Jerusalem
το ρημα της φαραγγος σιων τι εγενετο σοι νυν οτι ανεβητε παντες εις δωματα
ַשָּׂ֖א גֵּ֣יא חִזָּי֑וֹן מַה־לָּ֣ךְ אֵפ֔וֹא כִּֽי־עָלִ֥ית כֻּלָּ֖ךְ לַגַּגּֽוֹת׃
The burden of the valley of vision. What disturbs you now, that you are wholly gone up to the housetops?
2 ματαια ενεπλησθη η πολις βοωντων οι τραυματιαι σου ου τραυματιαι μαχαιρας ουδε οι νεκροι σου νεκροι πολεμου
ְּשֻׁא֣וֹת ׀ מְלֵאָ֗ה עִ֚יר הֽוֹמִיָּ֔ה קִרְיָ֖ה עַלִּיזָ֑ה חֲלָלַ֙יִךְ֙ לֹ֣א חַלְלֵי־חֶ֔רֶב וְלֹ֖א מֵתֵ֥י מִלְחָמָֽה׃
You that are full of stirs, a tumultuous city, joyous city: your slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.
3 παντες οι αρχοντες σου πεφευγασιν και οι αλοντες σκληρως δεδεμενοι εισιν και οι ισχυοντες εν σοι πορρω πεφευγασιν
ָּל־קְצִינַ֥יִךְ נָֽדְדוּ־יַ֖חַד מִקֶּ֣שֶׁת אֻסָּ֑רוּ כָּל־נִמְצָאַ֙יִךְ֙ אֻסְּר֣וּ יַחְדָּ֔ו מֵרָח֖וֹק בָּרָֽחוּ׃
All your rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers: all that are found in you are bound together, which have fled from far.
4 δια τουτο ειπα αφετε με πικρως κλαυσομαι μη κατισχυσητε παρακαλειν με επι το συντριμμα της θυγατρος του γενους μου
ַל־כֵּ֥ן אָמַ֛רְתִּי שְׁע֥וּ מִנִּ֖י אֲמָרֵ֣ר בַּבֶּ֑כִי אַל־תָּאִ֣יצוּ לְנַֽחֲמֵ֔נִי עַל־שֹׁ֖ד בַּת־עַמִּֽי׃
Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.
5 οτι ημερα ταραχης και απωλειας και καταπατηματος και πλανησις παρα κυριου σαβαωθ εν φαραγγι σιων πλανωνται απο μικρου εως μεγαλου πλανωνται επι τα ορη
ִּ֣י יוֹם֩ מְהוּמָ֨ה וּמְבוּסָ֜ה וּמְבוּכָ֗ה לַֽאדֹנָ֧י יְהוִ֛ה צְבָא֖וֹת בְּגֵ֣יא חִזָּי֑וֹן מְקַרְקַ֥ר קִ֖ר וְשׁ֥וֹעַ אֶל־הָהָֽר׃
For it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord GOD of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.
6 οι δε αιλαμιται ελαβον φαρετρας αναβαται ανθρωποι εφ ιπποις και συναγωγη παραταξεως
ְעֵילָם֙ נָשָׂ֣א אַשְׁפָּ֔ה בְּרֶ֥כֶב אָדָ֖ם פָּֽרָשִׁ֑ים וְקִ֥יר עֵרָ֖ה מָגֵֽן׃
And Elam bare the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.
7 και εσονται αι εκλεκται φαραγγες σου πλησθησονται αρματων οι δε ιππεις εμφραξουσι τας πυλας σου
ַיְהִ֥י מִבְחַר־עֲמָקַ֖יִךְ מָ֣לְאוּ רָ֑כֶב וְהַפָּ֣רָשִׁ֔ים שֹׁ֖ת שָׁ֥תוּ הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃
And it shall come to pass, that your best valleys shall be full of chariots, and the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.
8 και ανακαλυψουσιν τας πυλας ιουδα και εμβλεψονται τη ημερα εκεινη εις τους εκλεκτους οικους της πολεως
ַיְגַ֕ל אֵ֖ת מָסַ֣ךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַתַּבֵּט֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא אֶל־נֶ֖שֶׁק בֵּ֥ית הַיָּֽעַר׃
And he discovered the covering of Judah, and you did look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.
9 και ανακαλυψουσιν τα κρυπτα των οικων της ακρας δαυιδ και ειδοσαν οτι πλειους εισιν και οτι απεστρεψαν το υδωρ της αρχαιας κολυμβηθρας εις την πολιν
ְאֵ֨ת בְּקִיעֵ֧י עִיר־דָּוִ֛ד רְאִיתֶ֖ם כִּי־רָ֑בּוּ וַֽתְּקַבְּצ֔וּ אֶת־מֵ֥י הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה הַתַּחְתּוֹנָֽה׃
All of you have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and all of you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
10 και οτι καθειλοσαν τους οικους ιερουσαλημ εις οχυρωμα του τειχους τη πολει
ְאֶת־בָּתֵּ֥י יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם סְפַרְתֶּ֑ם וַתִּתְֿצוּ֙ הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים לְבַצֵּ֖ר הַחוֹמָֽה׃
And all of you have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have all of you broken down to fortify the wall.
11 και εποιησατε εαυτοις υδωρ ανα μεσον των δυο τειχεων εσωτερον της κολυμβηθρας της αρχαιας και ουκ ενεβλεψατε εις τον απ αρχης ποιησαντα αυτην και τον κτισαντα αυτην ουκ ειδετε
ּמִקְוָ֣ה ׀ עֲשִׂיתֶ֗ם בֵּ֚ין הַחֹ֣מֹתַ֔יִם לְמֵ֖י הַבְּרֵכָ֣ה הַיְשָׁנָ֑ה וְלֹ֤א הִבַּטְתֶּם֙ אֶל־עֹשֶׂ֔יהָ וְיֹצְרָ֥הּ מֵֽרָח֖וֹק לֹ֥א רְאִיתֶֽם׃
All of you made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but all of you have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.
12 και εκαλεσεν κυριος σαβαωθ εν τη ημερα εκεινη κλαυθμον και κοπετον και ξυρησιν και ζωσιν σακκων
ַיִּקְרָ֗א אֲדֹנָ֧י יְהוִ֛ה צְבָא֖וֹת בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא לִבְכִי֙ וּלְמִסְפֵּ֔ד וּלְקָרְחָ֖ה וְלַחֲגֹ֥ר שָֽׂק׃
And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
13 αυτοι δε εποιησαντο ευφροσυνην και αγαλλιαμα σφαζοντες μοσχους και θυοντες προβατα ωστε φαγειν κρεα και πιειν οινον λεγοντες φαγωμεν και πιωμεν αυριον γαρ αποθνησκομεν
ְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀ שָׂשׂ֣וֹן וְשִׂמְחָ֗ה הָרֹ֤ג ׀ בָּקָר֙ וְשָׁחֹ֣ט צֹ֔אן אָכֹ֥ל בָּשָׂ֖ר וְשָׁת֣וֹת יָ֑יִן אָכ֣וֹל וְשָׁת֔וֹ כִּ֥י מָחָ֖ר נָמֽוּת׃
And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; in order to morrow we shall die.
14 και ανακεκαλυμμενα ταυτα εστιν εν τοις ωσιν κυριου σαβαωθ οτι ουκ αφεθησεται υμιν αυτη η αμαρτια εως αν αποθανητε
ְנִגְלָ֥ה בְאָזְנָ֖י יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת אִם־יְ֠כֻפַּר הֶעָוֺ֨ן הַזֶּ֤ה לָכֶם֙ עַד־תְּמֻת֔וּן אָמַ֛ר אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִ֖ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃ פ
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till all of you die, says the Lord GOD of hosts.
15 ταδε λεγει κυριος σαβαωθ πορευου εις το παστοφοριον προς σομναν τον ταμιαν και ειπον αυτω
ֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִ֖ה צְבָא֑וֹת לֶךְ־בֹּא֙ אֶל־הַסֹּכֵ֣ן הַזֶּ֔ה עַל־שֶׁבְנָ֖א אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הַבָּֽיִת׃
Thus says the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get you unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,
16 τι συ ωδε και τι σοι εστιν ωδε οτι ελατομησας σεαυτω ωδε μνημειον και εποιησας σεαυτω εν υψηλω μνημειον και εγραψας σεαυτω εν πετρα σκηνην
ַה־לְּךָ֥ פֹה֙ וּמִ֣י לְךָ֣ פֹ֔ה כִּֽי־חָצַ֧בְתָּ לְּךָ֛ פֹּ֖ה קָ֑בֶר חֹצְבִ֤י מָרוֹם֙ קִבְר֔וֹ חֹקְקִ֥י בַסֶּ֖לַע מִשְׁכָּ֥ן לֽוֹ׃
What have you here? and whom have you here, that you have hewed you out a tomb here, as he that hews him out a tomb on high, and that graves an habitation for himself in a rock?
17 ιδου δη κυριος σαβαωθ εκβαλει και εκτριψει ανδρα και αφελει την στολην σου
ִנֵּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ מְטַלְטֶלְךָ֔ טַלְטֵלָ֖ה גָּ֑בֶר וְעֹטְךָ֖ עָטֹֽה׃
Behold, the LORD will carry you away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover you.
18 και τον στεφανον σου τον ενδοξον και ριψει σε εις χωραν μεγαλην και αμετρητον και εκει αποθανη και θησει το αρμα σου το καλον εις ατιμιαν και τον οικον του αρχοντος σου εις καταπατημα
ָנ֤וֹף יִצְנָפְךָ֙ צְנֵפָ֔ה כַּדּ֕וּר אֶל־אֶ֖רֶץ רַחֲבַ֣ת יָדָ֑יִם שָׁ֣מָּה תָמ֗וּת וְשָׁ֙מָּה֙ מַרְכְּב֣וֹת כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ קְל֖וֹן בֵּ֥ית אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ׃
He will surely violently turn and toss you like a ball into a large country: there shall you die, and there the chariots of your glory shall be the shame of your lord's house.
19 και αφαιρεθηση εκ της οικονομιας σου και εκ της στασεως σου
ַהֲדַפְתִּ֖יךָ מִמַּצָּבֶ֑ךָ וּמִמַּעֲמָֽדְךָ֖ יֶהֶרְסֶֽךָ׃
And I will drive you from your station, and from your state shall he pull you down.
20 και εσται εν τη ημερα εκεινη καλεσω τον παιδα μου ελιακιμ τον του χελκιου
ְהָיָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וְקָרָ֣אתִי לְעַבְדִּ֔י לְאֶלְיָקִ֖ים בֶּן־חִלְקִיָּֽהוּ׃
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:
21 και ενδυσω αυτον την στολην σου και τον στεφανον σου δωσω αυτω και το κρατος και την οικονομιαν σου δωσω εις τας χειρας αυτου και εσται ως πατηρ τοις ενοικουσιν εν ιερουσαλημ και τοις ενοικουσιν εν ιουδα
ְהִלְבַּשְׁתִּ֣יו כֻּתָּנְתֶּ֗ךָ וְאַבְנֵֽטְךָ֙ אֲחַזְּקֶ֔נּוּ וּמֶֽמְשֶׁלְתְּךָ֖ אֶתֵּ֣ן בְּיָד֑וֹ וְהָיָ֥ה לְאָ֛ב לְיוֹשֵׁ֥ב יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם וּלְבֵ֥ית יְהוּדָֽה׃
And I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your girdle, and I will commit your government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
22 και δωσω την δοξαν δαυιδ αυτω και αρξει και ουκ εσται ο αντιλεγων
ְנָתַתִּ֛י מַפְתֵּ֥חַ בֵּית־דָּוִ֖ד עַל־שִׁכְמ֑וֹ וּפָתַח֙ וְאֵ֣ין סֹגֵ֔ר וְסָגַ֖ר וְאֵ֥ין פֹּתֵֽחַ׃
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
23 και στησω αυτον αρχοντα εν τοπω πιστω και εσται εις θρονον δοξης του οικου του πατρος αυτου
ּתְקַעְתִּ֥יו יָתֵ֖ד בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן וְהָיָ֛ה לְכִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד לְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽיו׃
And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.
24 και εσται πεποιθως επ αυτον πας ενδοξος εν τω οικω του πατρος αυτου απο μικρου εως μεγαλου και εσονται επικρεμαμενοι αυτω
ְתָל֨וּ עָלָ֜יו כֹּ֣ל ׀ כְּב֣וֹד בֵּית־אָבִ֗יו הַצֶּֽאֱצָאִים֙ וְהַצְּפִע֔וֹת כֹּ֖ל כְּלֵ֣י הַקָּטָ֑ן מִכְּלֵי֙ הָֽאַגָּנ֔וֹת וְעַ֖ד כָּל־כְּלֵ֥י הַנְּבָלִֽים׃
And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.
25 εν τη ημερα εκεινη ταδε λεγει κυριος σαβαωθ κινηθησεται ο ανθρωπος ο εστηριγμενος εν τοπω πιστω και πεσειται και αφαιρεθησεται η δοξα η επ αυτον οτι κυριος ελαλησεν
ַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא נְאֻם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת תָּמוּשׁ֙ הַיָּתֵ֔ד הַתְּקוּעָ֖ה בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן וְנִגְדְּעָ֣ה וְנָפְלָ֗ה וְנִכְרַת֙ הַמַּשָּׂ֣א אֲשֶׁר־עָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר׃ ס
In that day, says the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD has spoken it.
