Fulfill Your Vow to God
φυλαξον ποδα σου εν ω εαν πορευη εις οικον του θεου και εγγυς του ακουειν υπερ δομα των αφρονων θυσια σου οτι ουκ εισιν ειδοτες του ποιησαι κακον
אַל־תְּבַהֵ֨ל עַל־פִּ֜יךָ וְלִבְּךָ֧ אַל־יְמַהֵ֛ר לְהוֹצִ֥יא דָבָ֖ר לִפְנֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים בַּשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ עַֽל־כֵּ֛ן יִהְי֥וּ דְבָרֶ֖יךָ מְעַטִּֽים׃
Keep your foot when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
2 μη σπευδε επι στοματι σου και καρδια σου μη ταχυνατω του εξενεγκαι λογον προ προσωπου του θεου οτι ο θεος εν τω ουρανω και συ επι της γης επι τουτω εστωσαν οι λογοι σου ολιγοι
כִּ֛י בָּ֥א הַחֲל֖וֹם בְּרֹ֣ב עִנְיָ֑ן וְק֥וֹל כְּסִ֖יל בְּרֹ֥ב דְּבָרִֽים׃
Be not rash with your mouth, and let not yours heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and you upon earth: therefore let your words be few.
3 οτι παραγινεται ενυπνιον εν πληθει περισπασμου και φωνη αφρονος εν πληθει λογων
כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ תִּדֹּ֨ר נֶ֜דֶר לֽ͏ֵאלֹהִ֗ים אַל־תְּאַחֵר֙ לְשַׁלְּמ֔וֹ כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין חֵ֖פֶץ בַּכְּסִילִ֑ים אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־תִּדֹּ֖ר שַׁלֵּֽם׃
For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.
4 καθως αν ευξη ευχην τω θεω μη χρονισης του αποδουναι αυτην οτι ουκ εστιν θελημα εν αφροσιν συν οσα εαν ευξη αποδος
ט֖וֹב אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־תִדֹּ֑ר מִשֶׁתִּדּ֖וֹר וְלֹ֥א תְשַׁלֵּֽם׃
When you vow a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools: pay that which you have vowed.
5 αγαθον το μη ευξασθαι σε η το ευξασθαι σε και μη αποδουναι
אַל־תִּתֵּ֤ן אֶת־פִּ֙יךָ֙ לַחֲטִ֣יא אֶת־בְּשָׂרֶ֔ךָ וְאַל־תֹּאמַר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמַּלְאָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י שְׁגָגָ֖ה הִ֑יא לָ֣מָּה יִקְצֹ֤ף הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ עַל־קוֹלֶ֔ךָ וְחִבֵּ֖ל אֶת־מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדֶֽיךָ׃
Better is it that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
6 μη δως το στομα σου του εξαμαρτησαι την σαρκα σου και μη ειπης προ προσωπου του θεου οτι αγνοια εστιν ινα μη οργισθη ο θεος επι φωνη σου και διαφθειρη τα ποιηματα χειρων σου
כִּ֣י בְרֹ֤ב חֲלֹמוֹת֙ וַהֲבָלִ֔ים וּדְבָרִ֖ים הַרְבֵּ֑ה כִּ֥י אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים יְרָֽא׃
Suffer not your mouth to cause your flesh to sin; neither say you before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of yours hands?
7 οτι εν πληθει ενυπνιων και ματαιοτητες και λογοι πολλοι οτι συν τον θεον φοβου
אִם־עֹ֣שֶׁק רָ֠שׁ וְגֵ֨זֶל מִשְׁפָּ֤ט וָצֶ֙דֶק֙ תִּרְאֶ֣ה בַמְּדִינָ֔ה אַל־תִּתְמַ֖הּ עַל־הַחֵ֑פֶץ כִּ֣י גָבֹ֜הַּ מֵעַ֤ל גָּבֹ֙הַ֙ שֹׁמֵ֔ר וּגְבֹהִ֖ים עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear you God.

Riches Are Meaningless
εαν συκοφαντιαν πενητος και αρπαγην κριματος και δικαιοσυνης ιδης εν χωρα μη θαυμασης επι τω πραγματι οτι υψηλος επανω υψηλου φυλαξαι και υψηλοι επ αυτους
וְיִתְר֥וֹן אֶ֖רֶץ בַּכֹּ֣ל *היא **ה֑וּא מֶ֥לֶךְ לְשָׂדֶ֖ה נֶעֱבָֽד׃
If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regards; and there be higher than they.
9 και περισσεια γης εν παντι εστι βασιλευς του αγρου ειργασμενου
אֹהֵ֥ב כֶּ֙סֶף֙ לֹא־יִשְׂבַּ֣ע כֶּ֔סֶף וּמִֽי־אֹהֵ֥ב בֶּהָמ֖וֹן לֹ֣א תְבוּאָ֑ה גַּם־זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל׃
Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.
10 αγαπων αργυριον ου πλησθησεται αργυριου και τις ηγαπησεν εν πληθει αυτων γενημα και γε τουτο ματαιοτης
בִּרְבוֹת֙ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה רַבּ֖וּ אוֹכְלֶ֑יהָ וּמַה־כִּשְׁרוֹן֙ לִבְעָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֖י אִם־*ראית **רְא֥וּת עֵינָֽיו׃
He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loves abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
11 εν πληθει της αγαθωσυνης επληθυνθησαν εσθοντες αυτην και τι ανδρεια τω παρ αυτης οτι αλλ η του οραν οφθαλμοις αυτου
מְתוּקָה֙ שְׁנַ֣ת הָעֹבֵ֔ד אִם־מְעַ֥ט וְאִם־הַרְבֵּ֖ה יֹאכֵ֑ל וְהַשָּׂבָע֙ לֶֽעָשִׁ֔יר אֵינֶ֛נּוּ מַנִּ֥יחַֽ ל֖וֹ לִישֽׁוֹן׃
When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
12 γλυκυς υπνος του δουλου ει ολιγον και ει πολυ φαγεται και τω εμπλησθεντι του πλουτησαι ουκ εστιν αφιων αυτον του υπνωσαι
יֵ֚שׁ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ עֹ֛שֶׁר שָׁמ֥וּר לִבְעָלָ֖יו לְרָעָתֽוֹ׃
The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
13 εστιν αρρωστια ην ειδον υπο τον ηλιον πλουτον φυλασσομενον τω παρ αυτου εις κακιαν αυτου
וְאָבַ֛ד הָעֹ֥שֶׁר הַה֖וּא בְּעִנְיַ֣ן רָ֑ע וְהוֹלִ֣יד בֵּ֔ן וְאֵ֥ין בְּיָד֖וֹ מְאֽוּמָה׃
There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.
14 και απολειται ο πλουτος εκεινος εν περισπασμω πονηρω και εγεννησεν υιον και ουκ εστιν εν χειρι αυτου ουδεν
כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר יָצָא֙ מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמּ֔וֹ עָר֛וֹם יָשׁ֥וּב לָלֶ֖כֶת כְּשֶׁבָּ֑א וּמְא֙וּמָה֙ לֹא־יִשָּׂ֣א בַעֲמָל֔וֹ שֶׁיֹּלֵ֖ךְ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃
But those riches perish by evil travail: and he bring forths a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
15 καθως εξηλθεν απο γαστρος μητρος αυτου γυμνος επιστρεψει του πορευθηναι ως ηκει και ουδεν ου λημψεται εν μοχθω αυτου ινα πορευθη εν χειρι αυτου
וְגַם־זֹה֙ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה כָּל־עֻמַּ֥ת שֶׁבָּ֖א כֵּ֣ן יֵלֵ֑ךְ וּמַה־יִּתְר֣וֹן ל֔וֹ שֶֽׁיַּעֲמֹ֖ל לָרֽוּחַ׃
As he came out of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
16 και γε τουτο πονηρα αρρωστια ωσπερ γαρ παρεγενετο ουτως και απελευσεται και τις περισσεια αυτω η μοχθει εις ανεμον
גַּ֥ם כָּל־יָמָ֖יו בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ יֹאכֵ֑ל וְכָעַ֥ס הַרְבֵּ֖ה וְחָלְי֥וֹ וָקָֽצֶף׃
And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit has he that has laboured for the wind?
17 και γε πασαι αι ημεραι αυτου εν σκοτει και πενθει και θυμω πολλω και αρρωστια και χολω
הִנֵּ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־רָאִ֣יתִי אָ֗נִי ט֣וֹב אֲשֶׁר־יָפֶ֣ה לֶֽאֶכוֹל־וְ֠לִשְׁתּוֹת וְלִרְא֨וֹת טוֹבָ֜ה בְּכָל־עֲמָל֣וֹ ׀ שֶׁיַּעֲמֹ֣ל תַּֽחַת־הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ מִסְפַּ֧ר יְמֵי־*חיו **חַיָּ֛יו אֲשֶׁר־נָֽתַן־ל֥וֹ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים כִּי־ה֥וּא חֶלְקֽוֹ׃
All his days also he eats in darkness, and he has much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.
18 ιδου ο ειδον εγω αγαθον ο εστιν καλον του φαγειν και του πιειν και του ιδειν αγαθωσυνην εν παντι μοχθω αυτου ω εαν μοχθη υπο τον ηλιον αριθμον ημερων ζωης αυτου ων εδωκεν αυτω ο θεος οτι αυτο μερις αυτου
גַּ֣ם כָּֽל־הָאָדָ֡ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָֽתַן־ל֣וֹ הָאֱלֹהִים֩ עֹ֨שֶׁר וּנְכָסִ֜ים וְהִשְׁלִיט֨וֹ לֶאֱכֹ֤ל מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ וְלָשֵׂ֣את אֶת־חֶלְק֔וֹ וְלִשְׂמֹ֖חַ בַּעֲמָל֑וֹ זֹ֕ה מַתַּ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽיא׃
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he takes under the sun all the days of his life, which God gives him: for it is his portion.
19 και γε πας ο ανθρωπος ω εδωκεν αυτω ο θεος πλουτον και υπαρχοντα και εξουσιασεν αυτον του φαγειν απ αυτου και του λαβειν το μερος αυτου και του ευφρανθηναι εν μοχθω αυτου τουτο δομα θεου εστιν
כִּ֚י לֹ֣א הַרְבֵּ֔ה יִזְכֹּ֖ר אֶת־יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֑יו כִּ֧י הָאֱלֹהִ֛ים מַעֲנֶ֖ה בְּשִׂמְחַ֥ת לִבּֽוֹ׃
Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
20 οτι ου πολλα μνησθησεται τας ημερας της ζωης αυτου οτι ο θεος περισπα αυτον εν ευφροσυνη καρδιας αυτου
For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answers him in the joy of his heart.
