| 1 | Joash Repairs the Templeων επτα ετων ιωας εν τω βασιλευσαι αυτον και τεσσαρακοντα ετη εβασιλευσεν εν ιερουσαλημ και ονομα τη μητρι αυτου σαβια εκ βηρσαβεεֶּן־שֶׁ֤בַע שָׁנִים֙ יֹאָ֣שׁ בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּֽירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ צִבְיָ֖ה מִבְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃ Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beersheba. |

| 2 | και εποιησεν ιωας το ευθες ενωπιον κυριου πασας τας ημερας ιωδαε του ιερεως ַיַּ֧עַשׂ יוֹאָ֛שׁ הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כָּל־יְמֵ֖י יְהוֹיָדָ֥ע הַכֹּהֵֽן׃ And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest. |
| 3 | και ελαβεν αυτω ιωδαε γυναικας δυο και εγεννησεν υιους και θυγατερας ַיִּשָּׂא־ל֥וֹ יְהוֹיָדָ֖ע נָשִׁ֣ים שְׁתָּ֑יִם וַיּ֖וֹלֶד בָּנִ֥ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he brings forth sons and daughters. |
| 4 | και εγενετο μετα ταυτα και εγενετο επι καρδιαν ιωας επισκευασαι τον οικον κυριου ַיְהִ֖י אַחֲרֵיכֵ֑ן הָיָה֙ עִם־לֵ֣ב יוֹאָ֔שׁ לְחַדֵּ֖שׁ אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃ And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD. |
| 5 | και συνηγαγεν τους ιερεις και τους λευιτας και ειπεν αυτοις εξελθατε εις τας πολεις ιουδα και συναγαγετε απο παντος ισραηλ αργυριον κατισχυσαι τον οικον κυριου ενιαυτον κατ ενιαυτον και σπευσατε λαλησαι και ουκ εσπευσαν οι λευιται ַיִּקְבֹּץ֮ אֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהַלְוִיִּם֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֡ם צְא֣וּ לְעָרֵ֪י יְהוּדָ֟ה וְקִבְצוּ֩ מִכָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל כֶּ֜סֶף לְחַזֵּ֣ק ׀ אֶת־בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם מִדֵּ֤י שָׁנָה֙ בְּשָׁנָ֔ה וְאַתֶּ֖ם תְּמַהֲר֣וּ לַדָּבָ֑ר וְלֹ֥א מִֽהֲר֖וּ הַֽלְוִיִּֽם׃ And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that all of you hasten the matter. Nevertheless the Levites hastened it not. |
| 6 | και εκαλεσεν ο βασιλευς ιωας τον ιωδαε τον αρχοντα και ειπεν αυτω δια τι ουκ επεσκεψω περι των λευιτων του εισενεγκαι απο ιουδα και ιερουσαλημ το κεκριμενον υπο μωυση ανθρωπου του θεου οτε εξεκκλησιασεν τον ισραηλ εις την σκηνην του μαρτυριου ַיִּקְרָ֣א הַמֶּלֶךְ֮ לִֽיהוֹיָדָ֣ע הָרֹאשׁ֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ מַדּ֙וּעַ֙ לֹֽא־דָרַ֣שְׁתָּ עַל־הַלְוִיִּ֔ם לְהָבִ֞יא מִֽיהוּדָ֣ה וּמִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֗ם אֶת־מַשְׂאַת֙ מֹשֶׁ֣ה עֶֽבֶד־יְהוָ֔ה וְהַקָּהָ֖ל לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְאֹ֖הֶל הָעֵדֽוּת׃ And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why have you not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness? |
| 7 | οτι γοθολια ην η ανομος και οι υιοι αυτης κατεσπασαν τον οικον του θεου και γαρ τα αγια οικου κυριου εποιησαν ταις βααλιμ ִּ֤י עֲתַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ הַמִּרְשַׁ֔עַת בָּנֶ֥יהָ פָרְצ֖וּ אֶת־בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְגַם֙ כָּל־קָדְשֵׁ֣י בֵית־יְהוָ֔ה עָשׂ֖וּ לַבְּעָלִֽים׃ For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim. |
| 8 | και ειπεν ο βασιλευς γενηθητω γλωσσοκομον και τεθητω εν πυλη οικου κυριου εξω ַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ אֲר֣וֹן אֶחָ֑ד וַֽיִּתְּנֻ֛הוּ בְּשַׁ֥עַר בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה חֽוּצָה׃ And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD. |
| 9 | και κηρυξατωσαν εν ιουδα και εν ιερουσαλημ εισενεγκαι κυριω καθως ειπεν μωυσης παις του θεου επι τον ισραηλ εν τη ερημω ַיִּתְּנוּ־ק֞וֹל בִּֽיהוּדָ֣ה וּבִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֗ם לְהָבִ֤יא לַֽיהוָה֙ מַשְׂאַ֞ת מֹשֶׁ֧ה עֶֽבֶד־הָאֱלֹהִ֛ים עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness. |
| 10 | και εδωκαν παντες αρχοντες και πας ο λαος και εισεφερον και ενεβαλλον εις το γλωσσοκομον εως ου επληρωθη ַיִּשְׂמְח֥וּ כָל־הַשָּׂרִ֖ים וְכָל־הָעָ֑ם וַיָּבִ֛יאוּ וַיַּשְׁלִ֥יכוּ לָאָר֖וֹן עַד־לְכַלֵּֽה׃ And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end. |
| 11 | και εγενετο ως εισεφερον το γλωσσοκομον προς τους προστατας του βασιλεως δια χειρος των λευιτων και ως ειδον οτι επλεονασεν το αργυριον και ηλθεν ο γραμματευς του βασιλεως και ο προστατης του ιερεως του μεγαλου και εξεκενωσαν το γλωσσοκομον και κατεστησαν εις τον τοπον αυτου ουτως εποιουν ημεραν εξ ημερας και συνηγαγον αργυριον πολυ ַיְהִ֡י בְּעֵת֩ יָבִ֨יא אֶת־הֽ͏ָאָר֜וֹן אֶל־פְּקֻדַּ֣ת הַמֶּלֶךְ֮ בְּיַ֣ד הַלְוִיִּם֒ וְכִרְאוֹתָ֞ם כִּי־רַ֣ב הַכֶּ֗סֶף וּבָ֨א סוֹפֵ֤ר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וּפְקִיד֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן הָרֹ֔אשׁ וִיעָ֙רוּ֙ אֶת־הָ֣אָר֔וֹן וְיִשָּׂאֻ֖הוּ וִֽישִׁיבֻ֣הוּ אֶל־מְקֹמ֑וֹ כֹּ֤ה עָשׂוּ֙ לְי֣וֹם ׀ בְּי֔וֹם וַיַּֽאַסְפוּ־כֶ֖סֶף לָרֹֽב׃ Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance. |
| 12 | και εδωκεν αυτο ο βασιλευς και ιωδαε ο ιερευς τοις ποιουσιν τα εργα εις την εργασιαν οικου κυριου και εμισθουντο λατομους και τεκτονας επισκευασαι τον οικον κυριου και χαλκεις σιδηρου και χαλκου επισκευασαι τον οικον κυριου ַיִּתְּנֵ֨הוּ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וִֽיהוֹיָדָ֗ע אֶל־עוֹשֵׂה֙ מְלֶ֙אכֶת֙ עֲבוֹדַ֣ת בֵּית־יְהוָ֔ה וַיִּֽהְי֤וּ שֹׂכְרִים֙ חֹצְבִ֣ים וְחָרָשִׁ֔ים לְחַדֵּ֖שׁ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וְ֠גַם לְחָרָשֵׁ֤י בַרְזֶל֙ וּנְחֹ֔שֶׁת לְחַזֵּ֖ק אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃ And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired stone workers and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD. |
| 13 | και εποιουν οι ποιουντες τα εργα και ανεβη μηκος των εργων εν χερσιν αυτων και ανεστησαν τον οικον κυριου επι την στασιν αυτου και ενισχυσαν ַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ עֹשֵׂ֣י הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה וַתַּ֧עַל אֲרוּכָ֛ה לַמְּלָאכָ֖ה בְּיָדָ֑ם וַֽיַּעֲמִ֜ידוּ אֶת־בֵּ֧ית הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים עַל־מַתְכֻּנְתּ֖וֹ וַֽיְאַמְּצֻֽהוּ׃ So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it. |
| 14 | και ως συνετελεσαν ηνεγκαν προς τον βασιλεα και προς ιωδαε το καταλοιπον του αργυριου και εποιησαν σκευη εις οικον κυριου σκευη λειτουργικα ολοκαυτωματων και θυισκας χρυσας και αργυρας και ανηνεγκαν ολοκαυτωσεις εν οικω κυριου δια παντος πασας τας ημερας ιωδαε ּֽכְכַלּוֹתָ֡ם הֵבִ֣יאוּ לִפְנֵי֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ וִֽיהוֹיָדָ֜ע אֶת־שְׁאָ֣ר הַכֶּ֗סֶף וַיַּעֲשֵׂ֨הוּ כֵלִ֤ים לְבֵית־יְהוָה֙ כְּלֵ֣י שָׁרֵ֔ת וְהַעֲל֣וֹת וְכַפּ֔וֹת וּכְלֵ֥י זָהָ֖ב וָכָ֑סֶף וַ֠יִּֽהְיוּ מַעֲלִ֨ים עֹל֤וֹת בְּבֵית־יְהוָה֙ תָּמִ֔יד כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֥י יְהוֹיָדָֽע׃ פ And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer likewise, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada. |
| 15 | και εγηρασεν ιωδαε πληρης ημερων και ετελευτησεν ων εκατον και τριακοντα ετων εν τω τελευταν αυτον ַיִּזְקַ֧ן יְהוֹיָדָ֛ע וַיִּשְׂבַּ֥ע יָמִ֖ים וַיָּמֹ֑ת בֶּן־מֵאָ֧ה וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה בְּמוֹתֽוֹ׃ But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died. |
| 16 | και εθαψαν αυτον εν πολει δαυιδ μετα των βασιλεων οτι εποιησεν αγαθωσυνην μετα ισραηλ και μετα του θεου και του οικου αυτου ַיִּקְבְּרֻ֥הוּ בְעִיר־דָּוִ֖יד עִם־הַמְּלָכִ֑ים כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֤ה טוֹבָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְעִ֥ם הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים וּבֵיתֽוֹ׃ ס And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house. |
| 17 | The Wickedness of Joashκαι εγενετο μετα την τελευτην ιωδαε εισηλθον οι αρχοντες ιουδα και προσεκυνησαν τον βασιλεα τοτε επηκουσεν αυτοις ο βασιλευςְאַֽחֲרֵ֥י מוֹת֙ יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע בָּ֚אוּ שָׂרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לַמֶּ֑לֶךְ אָ֛ז שָׁמַ֥ע הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made reverence to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them. |
| 18 | και εγκατελιπον τον κυριον θεον των πατερων αυτων και εδουλευον ταις ασταρταις και τοις ειδωλοις και εγενετο οργη επι ιουδαν και επι ιερουσαλημ εν τη ημερα ταυτη ַיַּֽעַזְב֗וּ אֶת־בֵּ֤ית יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֔ם וַיַּֽעַבְד֥וּ אֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִ֖ים וְאֶת־הָֽעֲצַבִּ֑ים וַֽיְהִי־קֶ֗צֶף עַל־יְהוּדָה֙ וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם בְּאַשְׁמָתָ֖ם זֹֽאת׃ And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass. |
| 19 | και απεστειλεν προς αυτους προφητας επιστρεψαι προς κυριον και ουκ ηκουσαν και διεμαρτυραντο αυτοις και ουκ ηκουσαν ַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח בָּהֶם֙ נְבִאִ֔ים לַהֲשִׁיבָ֖ם אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּעִ֥ידוּ בָ֖ם וְלֹ֥א הֶאֱזִֽינוּ׃ ס Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear. |
| 20 | και πνευμα θεου ενεδυσεν τον αζαριαν τον του ιωδαε τον ιερεα και ανεστη επανω του λαου και ειπεν ταδε λεγει κυριος τι παραπορευεσθε τας εντολας κυριου και ουκ ευοδωθησεσθε οτι εγκατελιπετε τον κυριον και εγκαταλειψει υμας ְר֣וּחַ אֱלֹהִ֗ים לָֽבְשָׁה֙ אֶת־זְכַרְיָה֙ בֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד מֵעַ֣ל לָעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לָהֶ֜ם כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים לָמָה֩ אַתֶּ֨ם עֹבְרִ֜ים אֶת־מִצְוֺ֤ת יְהוָה֙ וְלֹ֣א תַצְלִ֔יחוּ כִּֽי־עֲזַבְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֥ב אֶתְכֶֽם׃ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus says God, Why transgress all of you the commandments of the LORD, that all of you cannot prosper? because all of you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you. |
| 21 | και επεθεντο αυτω και ελιθοβολησαν αυτον δι εντολης ιωας του βασιλεως εν αυλη οικου κυριου ַיִּקְשְׁר֣וּ עָלָ֔יו וַיִּרְגְּמֻ֥הוּ אֶ֖בֶן בְּמִצְוַ֣ת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ בַּחֲצַ֖ר בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD. |
| 22 | και ουκ εμνησθη ιωας του ελεους ου εποιησεν μετ αυτου ιωδαε ο πατηρ αυτου και εθανατωσεν τον υιον αυτου και ως απεθνησκεν ειπεν ιδοι κυριος και κρινατω ְלֹא־זָכַ֞ר יוֹאָ֣שׁ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הַחֶ֙סֶד֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֜ה יְהוֹיָדָ֤ע אָבִיו֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וַֽיַּהֲרֹ֖ג אֶת־בְּנ֑וֹ וּכְמוֹת֣וֹ אָמַ֔ר יֵ֥רֶא יְהוָ֖ה וְיִדְרֹֽשׁ׃ פ Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it. |
| 23 | και εγενετο μετα την συντελειαν του ενιαυτου ανεβη επ αυτον δυναμις συριας και ηλθεν επι ιουδαν και επι ιερουσαλημ και κατεφθειραν παντας τους αρχοντας του λαου εν τω λαω και παντα τα σκυλα αυτων απεστειλαν τω βασιλει δαμασκου ַיְהִ֣י ׀ לִתְקוּפַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֗ה עָלָ֣ה עָלָיו֮ חֵ֣יל אֲרָם֒ וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ אֶל־יְהוּדָה֙ וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וַיַּשְׁחִ֛יתוּ אֶת־כָּל־שָׂרֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם מֵעָ֑ם וְכָל־שְׁלָלָ֥ם שִׁלְּח֖וּ לְמֶ֥לֶךְ דַּרְמָֽשֶׂק׃ And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus. |
| 24 | οτι εν ολιγοις ανδρασιν παρεγενετο δυναμις συριας και ο θεος παρεδωκεν εις τας χειρας αυτων δυναμιν πολλην σφοδρα οτι εγκατελιπον κυριον θεον των πατερων αυτων και μετα ιωας εποιησεν κριματα ִּי֩ בְמִצְעַ֨ר אֲנָשִׁ֜ים בָּ֣אוּ ׀ חֵ֣יל אֲרָ֗ם וַֽיהוָה֙ נָתַ֨ן בְּיָדָ֥ם חַ֙יִל֙ לָרֹ֣ב מְאֹ֔ד כִּ֣י עָֽזְב֔וּ אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם וְאֶת־יוֹאָ֖שׁ עָשׂ֥וּ שְׁפָטִֽים׃ For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash. |
| 25 | και μετα το απελθειν αυτους απ αυτου εν τω εγκαταλιπειν αυτον εν μαλακιαις μεγαλαις και επεθεντο αυτω οι παιδες αυτου εν αιμασιν υιου ιωδαε του ιερεως και εθανατωσαν αυτον επι της κλινης αυτου και απεθανεν και εθαψαν αυτον εν πολει δαυιδ και ουκ εθαψαν αυτον εν τω ταφω των βασιλεων ּבְלֶכְתָּ֣ם מִמֶּ֗נּוּ כִּֽי־עָזְב֣וּ אֹתוֹ֮ *במחליים **בְּמַחֲלוּיִ֣ם רַבִּים֒ הִתְקַשְּׁר֨וּ עָלָ֜יו עֲבָדָ֗יו בִּדְמֵי֙ בְּנֵי֙ יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וַיַּֽהַרְגֻ֥הוּ עַל־מִטָּת֖וֹ וַיָּמֹ֑ת וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֙הוּ֙ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֔יד וְלֹ֥א קְבָרֻ֖הוּ בְּקִבְר֥וֹת הַמְּלָכִֽים׃ ס And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchers of the kings. |
| 26 | και οι επιθεμενοι επ αυτον ζαβεδ ο του σαμαθ ο αμμανιτης και ιωζαβεδ ο του σομαρωθ ο μωαβιτης ְאֵ֖לֶּה הַמִּתְקַשְּׁרִ֣ים עָלָ֑יו זָבָ֗ד בֶּן־שִׁמְעָת֙ הָֽעַמּוֹנִ֔ית וִיה֣וֹזָבָ֔ד בֶּן־שִׁמְרִ֖ית הַמּוֹאָבִֽית׃ And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess. |
| 27 | και οι υιοι αυτου παντες και προσηλθον αυτω οι πεντε και τα λοιπα ιδου γεγραμμενα επι την γραφην των βασιλεων και εβασιλευσεν αμασιας υιος αυτου αντ αυτου ּבָנָ֞יו *ורב **יִ֧רֶ֞ב הַמַּשָּׂ֣א עָלָ֗יו וִיסוֹד֙ בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֔ים עַל־מִדְרַ֖שׁ סֵ֣פֶר הַמְּלָכִ֑ים וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ פ Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his position. |
