Preparations for Building the Temple
και απεστειλεν χιραμ βασιλευς τυρου τους παιδας αυτου χρισαι τον σαλωμων αντι δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου οτι αγαπων ην χιραμ τον δαυιδ πασας τας ημερας
וּשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה הָיָ֤ה מוֹשֵׁל֙ בְּכָל־הַמַּמְלָכ֔וֹת מִן־הַנָּהָר֙ אֶ֣רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְעַ֖ד גְּב֣וּל מִצְרָ֑יִם מַגִּשִׁ֥ים מִנְחָ֛ה וְעֹבְדִ֥ים אֶת־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה כָּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽיו׃ פ
And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2 και απεστειλεν σαλωμων προς χιραμ λεγων
וַיְהִ֥י לֶֽחֶם־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְי֣וֹם אֶחָ֑ד שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים כֹּר֙ סֹ֔לֶת וְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים כֹּ֖ר קָֽמַח׃
And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3 συ οιδας δαυιδ τον πατερα μου οτι ουκ εδυνατο οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου μου απο προσωπου των πολεμων των κυκλωσαντων αυτον εως του δουναι κυριον αυτους υπο τα ιχνη των ποδων αυτου
עֲשָׂרָ֨ה בָקָ֜ר בְּרִאִ֗ים וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים בָּקָ֛ר רְעִ֖י וּמֵ֣אָה צֹ֑אן לְ֠בַד מֵֽאַיָּ֤ל וּצְבִי֙ וְיַחְמ֔וּר וּבַרְבֻּרִ֖ים אֲבוּסִֽים׃
You know how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
4 και νυν ανεπαυσε κυριος ο θεος μου εμοι κυκλοθεν ουκ εστιν επιβουλος και ουκ εστιν απαντημα πονηρον
כִּי־ה֞וּא רֹדֶ֣ה ׀ בְּכָל־עֵ֣בֶר הַנָּהָ֗ר מִתִּפְסַח֙ וְעַד־עַזָּ֔ה בְּכָל־מַלְכֵ֖י עֵ֣בֶר הַנָּהָ֑ר וְשָׁל֗וֹם הָ֥יָה ל֛וֹ מִכָּל־עֲבָרָ֖יו מִסָּבִֽיב׃
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.
5 και ιδου εγω λεγω οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου μου καθως ελαλησεν κυριος ο θεος προς δαυιδ τον πατερα μου λεγων ο υιος σου ον δωσω αντι σου επι τον θρονον σου ουτος οικοδομησει τον οικον τω ονοματι μου
וַיֵּשֶׁב֩ יְהוּדָ֨ה וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל לָבֶ֗טַח אִ֣ישׁ תַּ֤חַת גַּפְנוֹ֙ וְתַ֣חַת תְּאֵֽנָת֔וֹ מִדָּ֖ן וְעַד־בְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֥י שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃ ס
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke unto David my father, saying, Your son, whom I will set upon your throne in your room, he shall build an house unto my name.
6 και νυν εντειλαι και κοψατωσαν μοι ξυλα εκ του λιβανου και ιδου οι δουλοι μου μετα των δουλων σου και τον μισθον δουλειας σου δωσω σοι κατα παντα οσα εαν ειπης οτι συ οιδας οτι ουκ εστιν ημιν ειδως ξυλα κοπτειν καθως οι σιδωνιοι
וַיְהִ֣י לִשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים אֶ֛לֶף אֻרְוֺ֥ת סוּסִ֖ים לְמֶרְכָּב֑וֹ וּשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֖לֶף פָּרָשִֽׁים׃
Now therefore command you that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants: and unto you will I give hire for your servants according to all that you shall appoint: for you know that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
7 και εγενηθη καθως ηκουσεν χιραμ των λογων σαλωμων εχαρη σφοδρα και ειπεν ευλογητος ο θεος σημερον ος εδωκεν τω δαυιδ υιον φρονιμον επι τον λαον τον πολυν τουτον
וְכִלְכְּלוּ֩ הַנִּצָּבִ֨ים הָאֵ֜לֶּה אֶת־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה וְאֵ֧ת כָּל־הַקָּרֵ֛ב אֶל־שֻׁלְחַ֥ן הַמֶּֽלֶךְ־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה אִ֣ישׁ חָדְשׁ֑וֹ לֹ֥א יְעַדְּר֖וּ דָּבָֽר׃
And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which has given unto David a wise son over this great people.
8 και απεστειλεν προς σαλωμων λεγων ακηκοα περι παντων ων απεσταλκας προς με εγω ποιησω παν θελημα σου ξυλα κεδρινα και πευκινα
וְהַשְּׂעֹרִ֣ים וְהַתֶּ֔בֶן לַסּוּסִ֖ים וְלָרָ֑כֶשׁ יָבִ֗אוּ אֶל־הַמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽהְיֶה־שָּׁ֔ם אִ֖ישׁ כְּמִשְׁפָּטֽוֹ׃ ס
And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which you sent to me for: and I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
9 οι δουλοι μου καταξουσιν αυτα εκ του λιβανου εις την θαλασσαν εγω θησομαι αυτα σχεδιας εως του τοπου ου εαν αποστειλης προς με και εκτιναξω αυτα εκει και συ αρεις και ποιησεις το θελημα μου του δουναι αρτους τω οικω μου
וַיִּתֵּן֩ אֱלֹהִ֨ים חָכְמָ֧ה לִשְׁלֹמֹ֛ה וּתְבוּנָ֖ה הַרְבֵּ֣ה מְאֹ֑ד וְרֹ֣חַב לֵ֔ב כַּח֕וֹל אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־שְׂפַ֥ת הַיָּֽם׃
My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in rafts unto the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and you shall receive them: and you shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
10 και ην χιραμ διδους τω σαλωμων κεδρους και παν θελημα αυτου
וַתֵּ֙רֶב֙ חָכְמַ֣ת שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה מֵֽחָכְמַ֖ת כָּל־בְּנֵי־קֶ֑דֶם וּמִכֹּ֖ל חָכְמַ֥ת מִצְרָֽיִם׃
So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
11 και σαλωμων εδωκεν τω χιραμ εικοσι χιλιαδας κορους πυρου και μαχιρ τω οικω αυτου και εικοσι χιλιαδας βεθ ελαιου κεκομμενου κατα τουτο εδιδου σαλωμων τω χιραμ κατ ενιαυτον
וַיֶּחְכַּם֮ מִכָּל־הָֽאָדָם֒ מֵאֵיתָ֣ן הָאֶזְרָחִ֗י וְהֵימָ֧ן וְכַלְכֹּ֛ל וְדַרְדַּ֖ע בְּנֵ֣י מָח֑וֹל וַיְהִֽי־שְׁמ֥וֹ בְכָֽל־הַגּוֹיִ֖ם סָבִֽיב׃
And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
12 και κυριος εδωκεν σοφιαν τω σαλωμων καθως ελαλησεν αυτω και ην ειρηνη ανα μεσον χιραμ και ανα μεσον σαλωμων και διεθεντο διαθηκην ανα μεσον εαυτων
וַיְדַבֵּ֕ר שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים מָשָׁ֑ל וַיְהִ֥י שִׁיר֖וֹ חֲמִשָּׁ֥ה וָאָֽלֶף׃
And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13 και ανηνεγκεν ο βασιλευς φορον εκ παντος ισραηλ και ην ο φορος τριακοντα χιλιαδες ανδρων
וַיְדַבֵּר֮ עַל־הֽ͏ָעֵצִים֒ מִן־הָאֶ֙רֶז֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּלְּבָנ֔וֹן וְעַד֙ הָאֵז֔וֹב אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֹצֵ֖א בַּקִּ֑יר וַיְדַבֵּר֙ עַל־הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה וְעַל־הָע֔וֹף וְעַל־הָרֶ֖מֶשׂ וְעַל־הַדָּגִֽים׃
And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14 και απεστειλεν αυτους εις τον λιβανον δεκα χιλιαδες εν τω μηνι αλλασσομενοι μηνα ησαν εν τω λιβανω και δυο μηνας εν οικω αυτων και αδωνιραμ επι του φορου
וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ מִכָּל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים לִשְׁמֹ֕עַ אֵ֖ת חָכְמַ֣ת שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה מֵאֵת֙ כָּל־מַלְכֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמְע֖וּ אֶת־חָכְמָתֽוֹ׃ ס
And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
15 και ην τω σαλωμων εβδομηκοντα χιλιαδες αιροντες αρσιν και ογδοηκοντα χιλιαδες λατομων εν τω ορει
וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח חִירָ֨ם מֶֽלֶךְ־צ֤וֹר אֶת־עֲבָדָיו֙ אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֔ע כִּ֥י אֹת֛וֹ מָשְׁח֥וּ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ תַּ֣חַת אָבִ֑יהוּ כִּ֣י אֹהֵ֗ב הָיָ֥ה חִירָ֛ם לְדָוִ֖ד כָּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃ ס
And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
16 χωρις αρχοντων των καθεσταμενων επι των εργων των σαλωμων τρεις χιλιαδες και εξακοσιοι επισταται οι ποιουντες τα εργα
וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה אֶל־חִירָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃
Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

אַתָּ֨ה יָדַ֜עְתָּ אֶת־דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֗י כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָכֹל֙ לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֗יִת לְשֵׁם֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔יו מִפְּנֵ֥י הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר סְבָבֻ֑הוּ עַ֤ד תֵּת־יְהוָה֙ אֹתָ֔ם תַּ֖חַת כַּפּ֥וֹת *רגלו **רַגְלָֽי׃
And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
18 και ητοιμασαν τους λιθους και τα ξυλα τρια ετη
וְעַתָּ֕ה הֵנִ֨יחַ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהַ֛י לִ֖י מִסָּבִ֑יב אֵ֣ין שָׂטָ֔ן וְאֵ֖ין פֶּ֥גַע רָֽע׃
And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the Gibalites also: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
